So this is the answer to one of the written exam questions (number 56 or 60 depending on what version of the exam my students took ) minus my commentary. I bet my students are sick and tired of my commentary, but I can't help it. I get too excited about this subject and cannot control myself. They do not understand my fascination and excitement for the entire field of medicine yet. I found this video while making their exam and I spent almost half a class period talking about this. . So, with that being said 15% of my students got this answer entirely correct, 30% partially correct, 35% attempted to answer the question without getting it correct, and 20% did not even try to answer the question. I have given all students who attempted to answer the question full points and the one's who got it right 5 pts extra credit. Needless to say, students who did not attempt the question got no points for this particular question.I promised my students I would post the answer, just didn't tell them where 😉Always remember to answer all questions! Cheers! . . . . . . #medstudent #medschool #doctors #premed #medicine #surgeontobe #surgery #surgeon #generalsurgery #residency #surgicalresident #md #do #followme #mbbs #usmle #neets #dds #dentalschool #dentist #clinicals #ilovemedicine #doctor #nurse #nclex #anatomy #physiology #biology #medical #futuredoc

Congrats to everyone who just became a nurse this year! I have lots of friends and acquaintances who recently passed the NCLEX and got their licenses, but they’re a little apprehensive about entering the workforce as a nurse during this crazy time. . Rather than setting long term goals that will be too far out and possibly leave you depressed that you are not achieving them, you can build confidence in yourself by setting concrete 90 days goals.⠀ ⠀ Here’s how you do this:⠀ ⠀ Step 1: Think....What is the MOST important thing that you can accomplish in the next 90 days that will create the most positive impact in your life?⠀ ⠀ Step 2: Now devote the largest portion of your energy to achieving this one goal.⠀ ⠀ Step 3: Break it down into 2 week performance goals.⠀ ⠀ Step 4: At the end of the 90 days . . . Reassess and Reset.⠀ ⠀ Try setting goals this semester and see how it works for you! Check out our full lesson on "Goal Setting" inside NURSING.com⠀ ⠀ #goalsetting #goals #nursingfamily #newnurse #nurse #nurses #rn #nursingschool #nursingeducation #nursesrock #cna #nurselife #nursing #nclex

Hey, remember this. Everything will work out exactly how and when it is suppose to, regardless of how and when you may want it to. I know how hard this is to believe, but it’s true. Look at where you are now. Did you think this was where you’d be a year, or even 5 years ago? I sure didn’t. So let your faith in the journey be stronger than your doubts and fears. Be patient with yourself and your growth, knowing that good things always take time. Give yourself time and space to try things and explore different paths. You will get there one day, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey too. Please don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you decide to enjoy your life! Work hard, get outside your comfort zone, and do what makes YOU truly happy! #liveyourlife #youdecide #beyoudoyou #livethelifeyouwant #iam1stphorm

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞. ⁣ ⁣ Often times we believe the false narrative that we must do everything perfectly to be a wonderful nurse. But, in fact it’s actually the mistakes we make that help us grow and flourish into amazing nurses. We have to learn to embrace that we aren’t above correction no matter how seasoned we are. The 10 year experienced nurse can learn something from the 2 year experienced nurse and vice versa. And the beautiful thing about that is it’s ok. Each of us should strive to continually learn from one another. Know that NO ONE knows it all and you should NEVER be ashamed to say that.

best friend 4 lyfe ✌🏽 Glad I’ve got this guy who I’m going to vent to about placement for the next year 🥺 😅 on that note - Fellow healthcare peeps, it’s so important have someone you can talk to not only about the tough times but also the good times because sometimes in the moment it’s really hard to process it all. Talk with your trusted loved ones, process your emotions, journal if you need to. Prayer journalling + talking to trusted loved ones were my go to even if they didn’t understand the ins and outs of healthcare - it still helped me to work through my thoughts and emotions 💭 We must protect our mental space otherwise we can’t pour out into others the way we do as healthcare professionals.

Life update friends I know it’s been a while! Since I last posted I have done the following ☑ completed my @hurstreview 60 day package ☑ Completed @nurseachieve 30 day package (free with code “FREE30” ☐ purchased 60 days of @uworldnursing yesterday ☐ started listening to Mark K audios I know this seems like LOTS of resources but honestly each one is so different. I am trying to listen to Mark K audios at night while on a walk to keep some level of fitness up and still be productive and am attempting to finish ALL uworld questions before my scheduled NCLEX in early September. I am thinking of making an extensive review on all these NCLEX resources based on my experiences, not sure if I’ll do it though YouTube or on here but I think it could be helpful as I found myself coming into this intensive study process blind and anxious. Let me know if anyone wants to see a review or if you have any questions / recommendations of what source to purchase if you’re only going to get 1 or 2 I’d love to help! #nursingschool #nursing #nursingstudents #nclex #nclexstudying #neclexrn #productivity

𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 ⁣ ⁣ As Summer Semester is coming to an end (1 more wk! ) I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on one of my favorite courses I have ever taken thus far in grad school: 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦. This class has been very eye-opening, thought-provoking, and interesting, esp. to have been taken during a global pandemic and the BLM movement. A reflection of the following domains-⁣  ⁣ 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: I learned that in order to become culturally competent in one’s practice, one must realize that learning to be culturally competent is a lifelong journey. I have gained a greater appreciation and awareness of the many cultures that make our world so diverse. I also learned how to use my education to better care for clients/patients of different backgrounds.⁣  ⁣ 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲: Through policy, we can address the social determinants of health, and address disparities in the access and quality of healthcare, especially the experiences of ethnic and racial minorities. Current policies exist that reflect stereotyping and biases within healthcare, and a lack of culturally competent care. We can use policy to improve access to primary care services so that minorities do not have to wait until it’s “too late” or until health conditions deteriorate before seeking care in the emergency room. Above all, we must prioritize in having all Americans, regardless of their culture, ethnicity, race, or background have access to quality care when they need it.⁣  ⁣ 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: This course further solidified my opinion on how practice is the best way to improve and become better. We all start somewhere, and through practice and patience, our actions can become second nature. This class provided me the opportunity to reflect and gain introspection on my own knowledge, beliefs, biases, opinions, and judgments to develop new ideas, skills, and insights into my nursing practice. I believe that we need to admit that we are not perfect, that there is always room for improvement, and that an open mindset can enable us to be humble and grow as individuals.

Life update: I finally finished nursing school which seemed like years. I had so many obstacles that prevented me from getting this degree. I felt like a failure all the time and thought this field might not be for me. There was one point in my life that made me hit rock bottom and almost made me give up on life entirely. Today I found out I passed the NCLEX and can finally say “Hi, my name is Vivian. I’ll be your nurse today”. I don’t say this much... but I’m proud of myself. I don’t remember the last time I had happy tears. Thank you for everyone who was part of this journey with me! Hi : ) here’s a list of random NCLEX facts you should know⁣ ⁣ In acidosis, the RR and depth increase in an attempt to exhale acids. In alkalosis, the RR and depth decrease; CO2 is retained to neutralize and decrease the strength of excess bicarbonate⁣ ⁣ Signs of L ventricular failure are evident in the pulmonary system. Signs of R ventricular failure are evident in the systemic circulation⁣ ⁣ The rapid removal of fluid from the abdominal cavity during paracentesis leads to decreased abdominal pressure, which can cause vasodilation and resultant shock; therefore, HR and BP must be monitored closely⁣ ⁣ Do not attempt to administer oral food or fluids to the pt experiencing a severe hypoglycemic reaction who is semiconscious or unconscious and is unable to swallow. This pt is at risk for aspiration. For this pt, an injection of glucagon is administered SC or IM. In the hospital or ER, the pt may be treated with an IV injection of 25-50 mL of 50% dextrose in water⁣ ⁣ Rubella vaccine is not given during pregnancy because the live attenuated virus may cross the placenta and present a risk to the developing fetus⁣ ⁣ Monitor the pt being treated for DKA closely for signs of increased ICP. If the blood glucose level falls too far or too fast before the brain has time to equilibrate, water is pulled from the blood to the CSF and brain, causing cerebral edema and increased ICP⁣

Imagine... in the midst of a world wide pandemic you face a massive explosion that kills hundreds and injures thousands. The explosion kills visitors in the hospital, some of your coworkers and even knocks you unconscious briefly. In spite of all that you find it in you to save three innocent newborn babies from the destruction while the building around you is falling apart. Can you picture it in your head? Well that’s what this nurse did. Don’t go into healthcare if you don’t have a passion for people. I’m not saying to sacrifice yourself for others but what I am saying caring for people cannot be taught. It takes a special kind of person to call them #nurse ❤️ #prayforlebanon #beirut Pic from @cnn

Sometimes you just have to chart “patient screamed gtfo of their room”....”will continue to monitor.” . Anyone else have those kind of nights? I love my job but sometimes it’s difficult to help those who don’t even want to help themselves. (Also patients who are withdrawing from ETOH or drugs is an all around sad and difficult situation ). Lately I’ve felt a little disenchanted with hospital life. I often wonder if it’s possible to do this for the next 35 years of my life. It’s not the first time (and I’m sure it won’t be the last ), but it feels good to be transparent. This job can be difficult + burnout seems inevitable, but it’s always good to remember why you went into this profession in the first place. Resilience is key 👨🏼‍⚕️🩺

Feeling comfortable at work:⁣ ⁣ As a new grad it can be really exciting yet scary to start a new position. The learning curve is steep and someone is there to orient you for a few weeks. During your first year, you may not feel comfortable answering probing questions the family may have or even speaking to doctors on the phone. ⁣ ⁣ These feelings are normal! It takes over a year to feel comfortable in your job. For me it took closer to two years to feel comfortable in the ICU and I’m still learning new things! There’s still things I feel uncomfortable with or need an extra set of eyes. It’s always okay to ask for help because patient safety is the most important thing. ⁣ ⁣ No matter what, if you feel in your heart that this specific type of nursing is for you, keep working towards it. Soon enough you’ll find yourself blossoming from that baby nurse position 💪🏼

@thedesireek : Please allow me to reintroduce myself *jigga voice * Desiree M BSN RN. My journey to becoming a nurse has been far from the average. God had a plan for my life. I’ve had to overcome obstacles to achieve this goal. I’m sharing with you those obstacles so god can get all the glory for bringing me to where I am. I’m a living breathing testimony that if god has a plan everything else must come under his domain. I failed anatomy TWICE, I had issues with financial aid error that caused me to be out of school for a year. I got into nursing school and failed my first nursing core class. Hard work, God’s plan and provision. I graduated nursing school cum laude! In April passed my boards on my first attempt with the minimum questions in May. Now soon to announce the next chapter. Believe in god’s plan for you even when you don’t believe in yourself or others doubt you. With god anything is possible 🙏🏽 don’t forget to thank god when you get what you prayed for #thenurseoasis
