Decided on a whim to quit coffee today. I was feeling pretty sluggish and unmotivated this arvo and glad that it was a low volume day of snatching (80 reps ) However, this is my last 10 snatches and they felt more powerful and smoother than I've ever done, let alone at 28kg. I don't feel my knee stable, I feel my knee stiff, my knee gives discomfort after the game, I feel pain behind my knee, I can't fully bend my knee etc... . These are very common complains I get from athletes even two or more years after successful knee surgery. My opinion is that, although your surgery and rehab went well you still need to keep looking after your knee. Restore the spring! . We know that plyometrics are important in restoring full function in lower body injuries . I love this reactive drop jump drill as it pushes the patient to really ‘spring’ off the ground and react . We assessed prior to this his ability with our jump mat and this demonstrated that both his single leg counter movement jump and relative fatigue single leg was an issue but on probing this was not just a strength issue but also one of confidence. To aid this we are going through some single and double leg progressions to really help build the physio cal capabilities and the psychological confidence to perform them . I would normally pick a slightly higher drop but again due to confidence we focused slightly more on just getting some reactivity and will build over time. . 💥ACL REHAB - HAMSTRINGS💥 The hamstrings muscle complex generates the greatest posterior shear force to reduce shearing forces on the ACL during single leg drop landing tasks. This makes hamstring strength and power crucial in recovering from ACL injury or surgery, particularly for returning to tasks that involve jumping and landing (Maniar, 2020 ). A recent study by Green (2020 ) found that previous history of ACL injury increased the risk of hamstring injury by 70%! Messer (2020 ) found that 6 years post-operatively after the use of a semitendinosus (hamstring ) graft, patients continued to have altered hamstring structure and atrophy. Control the things you can control • The “controllable” things. • This is what I told my girls in my accountability group today. • I told them that although we’re working close to 16-18 hour days right now, & sleeping/eating has been at the top of my priority list versus waking up early, I’m still doing my absolute best. • I’m controlling what I can in the unknown. I’m drinking as much water as I can & I’m eating as healthy as I possibly can...because well, my body HURTS after 80 flights of stairs. 🥵 • Sometimes doing your best just has to cut it y’all. • This control freak is still learning that. • But y’all, you better believe that the moment I have 30 extra minutes of “me” time that I can CREATE, I’ll be back to my at home workouts! • Do your best babe. 🚨***FAIL ALERT***🚨. On the last day of Ohio Blade Camp I decided to full send a 540 for the first time in atleast 15 years. My heart was willing but my knees were not. I could not take the impact. No major damage, thanks to my robo knee braces. BUT definitely some meniscus damage. I will be taking a few weeks off my wheels. Decided to start my week reflecting on my progress in the last half year. First pic: 6 days post first knee surgery for a full torn meniscus. It’s the only full body pic I have in a brace because I’ve been so self conscious of how I am post recovery. Recovery took two months on crutches. Second pic: 7 months later. almost two months into recovery of my 2nd knee surgery on my other knee for a torn ACL. At this point, thanks to COVID, I didn’t fully recover from my first injury fully and I’ve lost muscle, gained weight. I’ve been in self quarantine before COVID really broke out and am trying to keep my mental health stable. Yesterday I had surgery to repair my ACL ⠀ I fell wakeboarding at a cable park a few weeks ago and popped it basically all the way through. ⠀ It’s certainly feels like it’s going to take forever to recover but has made me realize I have so much to be grateful for, learn from, help me become a better coach, and show me new challenges on my own health & fitness journey. ⠀ I am grateful for 💗My wonderful hubby and support dog for taking care of me through all of this 💗My friends and family sending all the prayers, food, love, goodies, &checking in on me. 💗My body working to heal me ⠀ And as weird as it may sound I’m grateful for this experience 👉🏼learning more about the medical world 👉🏼experienceing Physical therapy as a trainer 👉🏼learning more about my own body ⠀ But it’s definately a process 👉🏼ZERO weight on leg first 3-5 days... doomed to the couch 👉🏼I get to be in this machine 8 hours a day for 2 weeks 👉🏼crutches & a massive brace for 3 weeks 👉🏼active brace for 3-4 months 👉🏼full recovery takes 6-9months 🙀 ⠀ Stay happy & healthy my friends 💕lys ⠀ #acl #aclrecovery #aclrehab #aclsurgery #fitness #fitnessmotivation #fitnessjourney #fitnessgirl #healthjourney #healthylifestyle #healthyliving #supportdog #dog #dogsofinstagram #love #husbandgoals #lazy #recovery #learning #learningeveryday #progressnotperfection

I’ve heard many athletes tell me their previous provider never loaded them with their knees coming forward and have even been told it’s bad for them! - ⛹️‍♀️If you watch an athlete move, at some point during a game, an athlete WILL have their knees over their toes with tasks such as decelerating, changing directions or jumping/landing. - 🏋️Not loading the quads with the knee coming forward means the athlete isn’t being properly prepared for sports. The quad NEEDS to be loaded in a variety of ways to regain full strength and function. - 🛑This does not mean every exercise needs to encourage this but it definitely needs to be integrated into a proper rehab program. - 💪Here are examples of exercises used in all phases of rehab which demonstrate knees over toes 1️⃣ Doorway mini split squat - one of the early ways I introduce knees over toes 2️⃣ Lateral heel touch - commonly used quad exercise 3️⃣ Forward heel touch - looks a lot like going down stairs downs it? 4️⃣ Banded jumps 5️⃣ Banded hops 6️⃣ Step off to jump 7️⃣ 90 degree hop to box jump 8️⃣ Shielding - she is NOT worried about her knee position doing this - 🧠𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯? 🚨 𝐊𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐛 - 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐃𝐎𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲🚨 - ✏️There are certain priorities after knee surgery that should be emphasized. I tend to not over complicate things so patients don’t get overwhelmed. - 👉My primary goals after knee surgery are to restore knee range of motion, get the quads activated and reduce swelling, simple as that. - 💡While the goal may be simple, the importance of education the patient on WHY its important is huge. Doing all these things well early on sets the foundation for the rest of rehab. - 😡I cant begin to tell you how many times I’ve had post op patients who still lack range of motion, and were told their range of motion was “good enough.” WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!? - 🏋️Here are a few examples of exercises I like to give to post op patients 1️⃣ Quad sets - quad action + knee extension is a must! 2️⃣ Heel slides with strap 3️⃣ Straight leg raise - 🧠𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯? Yesterday

Great news! It’s time to move on. ⁣ A compilation of knee injuries combusted into a painful summer on crutches and the couch. A fully torn ACL (at last ), retorn MCL and a quartered meniscus (the cartilage between the leg femur and tibia ) lodged in the back of my knee, locking it straight. I knew this journey would be a long one to recover. Then they told me I needed two separate surgeries. So I had my meniscus repaired last summer and my ACL reconstructive surgery set for this June was canceled due to Covid (understandably ). Throughout the past year, my typical activities and sports have been on hold. No pivoting, spinning, cutting, jumping...I MISS IT ALL😅 Here’s the good news! A select few of non-emergency surgeries were chosen this month and I’m one of them. 🙏 This Wednesday, August 12th. It’s a major surgery and I’m majorly looking forward to moving forward. no pain no gain 💩 leggoo #healthiswealth #grateful

Couple things: • Recovery is going as well as it can. My mom and sister have been life savors.
