Shervin Assari studies the effects of racism on the health of black men and claims that the consequences of racism in the U.S. are much wider than only police shootings. Black men are more likely to suffer from cancer, stroke, HIV, homicide, substance use, depresion, suicide and other cronic deseases. This is mainly because societal inequalities increase people’s vulnerabilities. Read the full article on our website. What do you think should be the role of students at universities? Do you agree with the view of students as clients? Or do you think universities should encourage students to act as political beings? Juha Suoranta and Robert FitzSimmons talk about the concept of the silent student in their article and illustrate how silencing happens as a consequence of a structural change in the balance of power between the Finnish government and the universities. Linnan (Rooney ) Zhuang addresses the question that many university degree students may face during their study life. It is commonly believed that if you study engineering you will end up being an engineer, but what most of the students haven't thought of is that they may also end up in a different position slightly related to their studies mainly for the reason it is their newly discovered passion. If you want to know more about how this is discussed, check out our webpage! #criticaledges #education #fear #career #university #struggle

Say hello to our team! Today with Amrita 😊 She is a PhD student at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India and has been writing and editing for Critical Edges for almost two years. She says about herself: “No matter how far I run away from editing, it somehow finds me.” What she was intrigued with joining the Critical Edges team was the eclectic membership of the magazine and the vast scope of connecting with like-minded students from different parts of the world. Reading articles, poems, stories, etc. written by different students and getting to edit some of them is an enriching experience for her. She looks forward to a long-term relationship with the Critical Edges and hopes to contribute to its growth over the years. #membermonday #criticaledges #editing #criticaljournalism
