Wat zijn de absolute essentials voor een geslaagde wandeling? 🤔 Je gaat wandelen dus om te beginnen is een leiband best handig... 😉 And... great news: ✨🥳 De nieuwe leibanden zijn er! Een kauwbotje, kan jij rustig bekomen with a little something for you 🥂. Because you earned it 😉 ❤️🐾 Daniëlla

Training Recalls. . An important part of teaching recall is to make training a game for your dog. You want your dog to think that coming and being near you is the best thing ever! Start your training in a slow, low-distraction environment, like inside your house. First, show your dog a toy or a treat, praise them as they are coming to you, then reward them. After a few repetitions, whenever your dog looks at you and starts to move towards you, add in your chosen verbal cue (come, here, etc. ). Make sure to only add in the cue when you are confident your dog is moving towards you. You can slowly make the recall a little more challenging by asking your dog to come before showing them the treat. But, be sure to reward with a high-value treat like chicken, cheese, or beef liver, when they get to you. Also, try slowly adding distance within your low-distraction environment. . . . . #dogtips #dogbehavior #doglanguage #funfacts #playallday #fetch #happydog #happydoghappylife #playtime #exercise #meandmydog #bondingtime #dogsarefamily #loveyourdog #walkies #waggingtails #gooddog #wellbehaved #goodmanners #healthyandfit #bestwoof #recalltraining #trustrespectlove

I used to be one of those ‘it’s all in how you raise them’ people. Despite only ever owning mutts, I’ve always had good, fairly well-rounded dogs, and of course it must be how they’re raised 🤷‍♀️ therefore any aggressive/reactive issues can be trained out 🤷‍♀️ Definitely know better now. And this has absolutely improved my understanding and appreciation of certain breeds. Bean has been a major game changer for us. He’s a bully mix of some sort. He is the most cuddly and affectionate dog I’ve ever met. He also has reactive issues, will snap randomly, and resource guards. He is almost always the cause of a fight between our dogs, and always needs someone to break up a fight, otherwise he just keeps going. However, he’s treated the same as all our other dogs 🤷‍♀️. Bean requires a lot more management to ensure everyone is safe. Avoiding overly exciting situations around the other dogs, putting him in his pen when there is any food out. Supervising him closely if there are toys around. I think we do a pretty good job, and his reactivity has definitely improved. But there is a stark contrast between Bean’s behaviour (who is a breed with a background of Dog aggression ) and Toc (shepherd/husky mix ), and this is testament to his genetics and breeding. Bean has taught me a lot. And made me realise paying attention to genetics are SERIOUSLY important. Despite the headaches he can cause, I seriously love this dopey boy.

🤙🏽Hey there new blood... 💭 I wish there was a way to tell the dogs and pups that come to us that they’re gonna be okay from now on. That they’re off the kill list. That we’re gonna find them what they need; medical care to stop the pain, behavioral support so that they can heal, and a rockstar human that WILL be there for the long haul. ▫️They don’t understand English, so I try and communicate all the above with the calmest energy I can. 🌬 They understand energy. Sometimes you just share a safe moment and breathe with them. 📢 Today we responded to a plea from several high kill shelters and took over 20 dogs in order to make room for the ones displaced from all the fires. In awe of the best team ever at @wagsandwalks 🙏🏼🐾 Please #adoptdontshop

Do you feel lost when it comes to crate or kennel training your dog? 😫 Not every pet owner crate trains their dog...and that’s okay. But, if you would like to learn to crate train your dog, follow these six simple do’s and don’ts to guarantee your dog will find his/her crate or portable kennel a great place! 🐾 Select a crate big enough for your puppy to stand up and turn around easily. If you buy a crate to match your puppy’s eventual adult size, temporarily insert a divider until he/she gets larger. 🐾 Let your puppy check out the inside on his/her own. Encourage their curiosity by tossing a toy or a few treats inside. 🐾 Feed your puppy in the crate. Quietly close the door while he/she eats and follow up with a trip outside to do their business. 🐾 Make the inside of the crate comfy with an old blanket or bath towel and a chew toy to keep your puppy occupied. 🐾 Never, ever put your puppy in the crate as a punishment. Find a different “time-out” place, like a bathroom, when you need to stop an unwanted behavior. 🐾 Never keep your dog in a crate longer than 4 or 5 hours at a time as it leads to depression or anxiety. ✨ F I N N ✨⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣I love people that advocate for their dogs. Every dog is different and every dog has their own limitations, fears and boundaries. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Finn can be termed as a ‘reactive dog’. More than anything his owners, close friends and family would love to be able to simply remove the fear he has of other dogs and people. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣But that simply isn’t going to happen. ⁣⁣ And there is no simple ‘fix’. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣It is a daily and lifelong commitment to ensure his and other peoples/dogs safety, his well being and trying to build his confidence with love, support and consistency. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣To those blessed people and dogs in his life that he trusts; they know him. He is gorgeous! He is such a cutie, loves a good cuddle and scratch, loves to play and run, loves to please you and has the most amazing eyes. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣On our photo shoot day he wasn’t too sure of the camera or stopping along on our walk to be asked to sit or lie down in certain spots. And that’s ok, we took our time and didn’t ask too much of him. Although he quickly realised what was happening, that the camera wasn’t so scary and there were yummy fish treats for being a good boy! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Our location was a place chosen specifically for Finn, where it’s a bit further out and there’s less chance of seeing other dogs and people. There was a few times we had to stop and walk away as others were also out there too, and thankfully they were all respective and kept their distance (par one brown lab that had been taken out and the owner had left his leash at home🙄 ).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣To all the reactive dog owners out there I see you. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 💪I know you’re out there walking at 4/5am while its dark and quiet and so you have a more enjoyable and safe walk. ⁣⁣ 💪⁣All those hours you put into training, learning and researching.⁣⁣ 💪The money you might spend on trainers. And possibly different trainers to find what works for you and your dog.⁣⁣ 💪⁣Hating the stigma that might be associated with your dogs breed.⁣⁣ 💪⁣The tears and frustration. ⁣⁣ 💪⁣The patience.⁣⁣ 💪⁣But also the small and tiniest of wins!⁣⁣ Continued in comments...

Please help me with my dog!!!! Why does he growl like this when I love on him? He will even crawl into my lap and then growl when I start petting him. Sometimes he will show his teeth when I kiss his forehead or rub his snout. But if I stop he’ll push his nose and head back under my hand. He is a 1yr old pitty we got at four months from a shelter. This is the ONLY time he makes this sound. #dogadvice #helpwithmydog #dogbehavior #dogbehaviorist

Working a dog in a fear period. This seems to be a controversial topic in the Service Dog community some people say no keep them home till it’s over, and others say go about your daily routine. I rest somewhere in the middle. I think it depends on the dog for instance Honor has hit a fear period and has hit it pretty hard. He’s a extremely happy/goofy, confident dog, and always has been. This fear period he’s been getting stressed out when loud noises like knocking, or sudden noises occur. He got startled at my Cardiologist appointment which is not like him in the slightest he’s been to a handful of doctors appointments and tests with me with no issues whatsoever. Well some people would say I just need to pull him and try again in a week. I believe that does nothing, but put you the same place your in a week from now. Doing nothing, will give you nothing. Well you may be wondering than what am I doing? I’m counter conditioning him to loud noises. We had to go clean the car with my mom today, so I worked on basic’s, engagement, and playing while the vacuum was going off. He was stressed, but by the end of our session he was settling while the vacuum was going! We had to go to Walmart afterwards. While my mom shopped I worked around carts passing by rewarding when he looked to me for instruction instead of hyper fixating on them. I worked around dropping items near him, and knocking on random things as that seems to be a trigger. When we were done at Walmart he was significantly less stressed. Now there is a time to pull a dog due to a fear period on work on those fears in pet friendly places, home, and outside, but you still need to working through those fears. This is because even though it’s just a fear periods those fears can become real ones if you don’t properly address them. Weather you choose to pull a dog during a fear period or not remember to work on it either way. • {photo description• Honor sits in the treat aisle of Target looking straight ahead} • #servicedog #servicedogintraining #fearperiod #poodle #servicedogtrainer #trainer #dogtrainer #dogbehavior #dogsofinstagram #dogtrainerlife #runyourdognotyourmouth #servicedoglife

If you know the answer to this question, consider yourself a “canine conversationalist!” 😎 If not, check out these dog sounds and what your canine friend is trying to tell you! 🐾 🐾 High-Pitched, Long Bark “I’m worried or lonely and need help.” 🐾 Rapid, High-Pitched, Repetitive Barks “Let’s play! Chase me! At least throw my ball!” 🐾 Low, Repetitive Barks “Stay away from my family! Keep off my property!” 🐾 A Single Bark or Two “Hey! I’m here! What are you doing?” 🐾 Growling with Teeth Exposed & Tense Body Leaning Forward “I’m warning you - back off and leave me alone!” 🐾 Growling with Body Crouched Low “You’re making me nervous! A common mistake I see people make with their dog, is assuming a big back yard or fenced in yard equals exercise and the need for walks are gone. Not true at all! Very few dogs will exercise themselves and end up laying around, digging, barking or practicing a number of other unwanted behaviors that will be hard for you to get rid of. Back yards are wonderful! And I definitely believe many dogs enjoy having more time outdoors and getting to play fetch, or play with dog friends, but this does not substitute exercise and DEFINITELY doesn’t substitute mental stimulation. You hear me rant about it all the time, the need dogs have for adventure and to be part of a pack (human or canine ) and although back yards are fun, fetch is fun, friends are fun, it is still leaving part of your dog’s bucket of needs empty. Along with their need for adventure, there is also a primal need to migrate, the socialization that comes from getting your dog out of the house (or your own back yard, ) and the bond that forms between you and your dog by migrating and exploring together...taking the dog for a walk is a no brainer! So, dog parents, aspire to the biggest and best back yard for your dog, but don’t let it replace their walks and hikes with you!

Piggybacking off of yesterday's post, we want to share with you one 🐶's story of being sent to a board & train facility & the consequences that followed. The story we are sharing with you today was originally written by Kata Lasala of @rescuedbytraining . Go follow her! Kate worked with Noelle after she was sent to a 6️⃣ week board & train facility. Upon returning home she was wearing both a prong & a shock collar, was malnourished & bit her owner. She was sent there bc she was reactive to other dogs while on leash. She was pushy at the dog park but never did injure another dog. Her family thought she was “aggressive” & that she needed to be “fixed.” So they sent her off to a place claiming to rehabilitate dogs. They didn’t know better & it’s not their fault. The dog training field is highly unregulated. Due to no licensing or education reqs, anyone can call themselves a trainer & it’s up to us to figure out who is legit or not. It is so it’s easy to be duped! That’s why it’s so important that before you hire a trainer that you look for transparency & ask them questions. $6500 later, she had a bite history, injured 2️⃣ dogs, was lunging & snarling at strangers & had developed fear of being touched. Not only was she not “fixed” but now she had new, much more serious and complex issues than what she was sent there for. Noelle’s owners thought this person who claims to be a trainer & a behaviorist was going to help their dog. They didn’t know what questions to ask & were promised their dog would be fixed. It’s important to know that no reputable trainer will ever give you a guarantee of success or promise to fix your dog. In fact, it’s unethical to do so! Noelle’s story, unlike so many others, has a happy ending but it took almost of year of undoing the damage that those 6️⃣ weeks caused. If you need help finding a qualified trainer, check @theacademyfordogtrainers or the @petprofessionalguild directory. Unsure if the trainer you’re considering is using the right methods? Shoot us a message! #forcefreetraining #forcefree #forcefreedogtraining#dogtraining #positivereinforcement #positivedogtraining #fearfree #fearfreepets #positivetraining #akitas

✏️Onzekere/bange hond. Keep it cool. 😄 Go Bleuy! Hit the translate button for English/French, I hope the translation is OK... 😁 #honden #hond #dogs #dog #hondentraining #dogtraining #dogbehavior #behavior #pup #chihuahua #pincher #hund #larsk9s
