Laat je volgers weten dat je ze waardeert. For starters, if you’ve already done this, here’s your 🍪. I’m doing MINE now! I downloaded this app October 27, 2017. I was HELLA late to the game (I can be a lame dork and I’m not as “cool” as I look lol )! I didn’t care about having iNsTgraM. I was fine with blissful ignorance. It took me a year to get into this app. Since then, I can’t even tell you how much TIME I’ve spent on this damn thing smh. I’ve spent countless hours twisted with thoughts and emotions I hadn’t felt before. I’d like to think I make good use of my REAL life. I travel, I’ve executed some of my life goals (my business @celebrationsbydiyonna is one ), I belly dance, I paint, I write.....sometimes. It could be a lot more. But I’m guilty of all the above in this post. Of course it’s “no one’s” fault but my own. I know it’s my own personal problem and “no one cares”, right? Whether it’s for the same reasons or not, couldn’t we ALL benefit from taking a social media break? I know there are MILLIONS of people who can relate. I know with quarantine, a lot of us couldn’t help but to be consumed with it. Wouldn’t it be great to revisit the good ole days? The days before we cared so much about “capturing the moment for the gram”. The days where we looked each other in the eyes, instead of gluing them to our phones constantly. I worked with Sarah Moe ( @sarahsleepzzz ), a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, which is a fancy way of saying she’s a qualified expert on matters of sleep. After 2 sessions with this sleep whisperer, I'm getting a solid 7-8 hours a night. And the subtle shifts she suggested took only a few days to implement. In fact, I started to see results from the first night. Read now if you struggle with sleep, addiction to TV or devices before bed or the general "I don't wanna go to bed" syndrome. When I was 11 years old my parents gave me a small TV for my bedroom. That was the beginning of the end to any sort of normal sleep cycle for me. I would stay up past midnight watching the Joan Rivers show on week nights, something an 11 year old shouldn’t be doing. By the time I was a teenager, I would spend the summer nights watching reruns of the Golden Girls until 2am while the rest of my family slept. I’d wake up the next day at noon feeling groggy and mad at myself for wasting the day. Every night I was like, “I’m not doing this again,” and then it would happen anyway. I was addicted to not going to bed. As I became an adult, this didn't change - whether it was all nighters in college for the dreaded 10 page paper or just binge drinking till 5am, my sleep hygine was shit. Now I'm an adult with Netflix and Instagram and all bets are off. I’ve worked it out with some therapists that I have some sort of “Unsupervised child syndrome”, where I stay up late as a form of indulgence (the 11 year old with a TV in his room ) but I end up sabotaging myself when it’s time to show up in the world as an adult with a career. It had gotten much worse in the pandemic, because in the last few months I’ve had no place to be in the morning. I was staying up until 2:30 or 3:00am binging on news and sleeping later than I care to admit. Then a friend referred me to Sarah Moe, a sleep health expert and everything I’ve struggled with since age 11 changed in a week. Go to link in my bio to read!

•• Mindless scrolling on Instagram •• . Instagram has taken the world—and our free time—by storm. Even just a few months ago, I found myself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram like it was my job. Ugh. Thanks to this lockdown and the increased work load (with no maid around ), I had to give up this habit of mine which made me realise how much could this actually affect someone! ❗️Instagram is not actually always a healthy companion, especially when we’re sacrificing the companionship of the people we love most. It’s getting in the way of conversations, meaningful interactions, and snuggling ❗️Mindless scrolling can affect mental health, and not in a positive way. Continuous scrolling and seeing others’ posts can sometimes make us feel like we aren’t doing enough ❗️It surely plays with the sleep cycle What could be done? Social media and technology can be integral to one’s success, IF used in the right way. ✅ 𝘼𝙙𝙢𝙞𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙢: It’s like half a battle won when we admit having a problem and unnatural scrolling is no exception ✅ 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧: So as a social media content creator, I certainly need to catch up with my co-bloggers’ posts, But now when I go online, I make an effort to solely watch stories and look at profiles that inspire me, that ADD GENUINE VALUE to my day. And hey, if you follow me currently and are thinking, "Well, your posts don't actually do that for me." That's okay! Maybe I am not the person you should be following - no hard feelings! ✅ 𝙎𝙚𝙩 𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨: Try setting boundaries for social media app usage. It’s been 3 months, I don’t use SM apps till 10:30am (I wake up around 7:30am ) Even if I take pictures of my #morningrituals (I do that for my stories ), I post them after 10:30am. ✅ 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠: Try occasional social media detox experiment. It work wonders (you don’t believe me, ask your child ) . So tell me guys what do you do to keep this mindless scrolling in check? . Stay tuned.. #momma_and_peanut
