@isokongallery A small and fascinating gallery open 11-4. Visit Belsize Woods on a weekend and while you’re there stop nextdoor at the @isokongallery The Lawn Road Flats – also known as the Isokon Building – was the creation of Jack & Molly Pritchard and architect Wells Coates. It was the first modernist block of flats in Britain and pioneered the idea of minimalist, stylish city living. The compact ‘minimum flats’ occupy only 24m², whilst its restaurant and bar, the Isobar, provided a social hub for artists and intellectuals. It’s free to visit and there’s no need to pre-book. Afterwards, it’s a short walk to Belsize Streatery. Otherwise, we organised our visit to compliment a pre-booked visit to @kentishtowncityfarm

Kid’s first trip to the bowling alley 🎳 Opened just this morning, socially distanced, masks on for entry but loads of fun. Plus his first experience of an arcade...don’t think I’ve ever seen such joy in his eyes as when he was blasting dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park game 🔫🙈

We finally took a trip to @hanwellzoo since it re-opened - we hadn't been able to get a same day slot. We love Hanwell zoo and it really is a little local gem - but definitely not somewhere you should travel miles and miles to get to. . It's quite small, with just a few animals, but they do include some favourites of ours such as flamingos, lemurs and meerkats. The kids do tend to spend most of our visit in the sandy play area though! Visits are currently limited to an hour which was enough time for us (we could have spent another 30 mins but it was boiling hot anyway. ) Definitely worth a visit if you're quite local - it's so cheap! . 📍 @hanwellzoo W7 3BP 📆Open daily 10am-5pm 💳Under 3s Free, kids £2.50, adults £4.50 💻Must book online: hanwellzoo.co.uk

🎶ELECTRONIC AT THE DESIGN MUSEUM🎶 Probably the closest I'll get to a good night out for quite some time. I never was a huge raver but as a teenager I did my fair share of clubbing. Late nights and early mornings in sweaty, smoky and dingy clubs where the thrill was moving like a maniac to ear drum shattering tunes, the haze pierced by blades of light. And the current exhibition Electronic: From Kraftwerk to the Chemical Brothers @designmuseum captures all these sensations. The title isn't entirely accurate - it starts with a corridor like rattle through 120 years of the history and development of electronic music, hurtling you to 1980s Chicago and the birth of dance culture. Don 3D glasses to see Kraftwerk in concert with floating 80s style graphics. @thechemicalbrothers provide a fantastic finale with dry smoke, life size figures dancing on huge screens, and so much lazer and light action you might wonder if you do actually have epilepsy. The exhibition has an age 12+ rating but apart from a bit of suggestive moaning, I didn't see anything that concerned me about taking 6 year old Museum Girl. She absolutely loved it and spent most of the time plugging in her ear phones to hear more music, and dancing just as crazily as I used to. Her favourite part was the dancing square by @1024architecture - who knew a shape could gyrate? Both Museum Teen and friend enjoyed it too, and for them dance music is for people like me who are WELL OLD. The exhibition includes famous clubs from around the world but manages to avoid being just a nostalgia trip. There's a look at whether gay clubs are over, and at the criminalisation of mass gatherings with the Criminal Justice Act. But the overall impression is one of Intoxicating, slightly hedonistic fun. It's noisy, energetic and exciting, just like my Saturday nights used to be. Book now as it's selling out - this weekend if your name's not on the list, you're not coming in. 📸 MG dancing her little socks off in the Chemical Brothers finale. More pics in stories 👆 🔖 Bookmark for later @ please tag me @museummum if you go somewhere I suggest, I love to see your pics 💬 What were your Saturday nights like?

LONDONERS... We just discovered this incredible exhibition thanks to Emmy at @bablands .london, she said, "Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers is the escapism we all need right now. It's by far the best exhibition I've ever seen at @designmuseum and the kids were so into it"! @electricplaybox Our staycation didn’t go as planned. All the issues with the hotel and the weather being too hot, I am so glad this cheered us up on the last day. We visited Electric Playbox near Southbank to have a go at their immersive digital adventure and the minute the screens lit up even I was so excited. The concept is to play the digital game as a team and you, the players, are the controllers of the game. We played the Alien Aptitude Test London, which was very interesting for both of us and super fun. It had us on our feet getting active and with each level it got more interesting. I hope you watched our stories. We’ve even got a glimpse in reels that you can check out. Misha has been talking about it still and asked when we can go back. She really wants to play ‘Rescue The Royals’. The recommended age is 8+ but in my opinion I would take a 6 year old Misha too. The experience lasts 60 mins and prices start at £14. It’s super fun for families as well as a social activity for friends. We always love a few days in the capital and this was a last minute trip. We woke up that morning, decided to take the kids to see Buckingham Palace, booked a cheap hotel, hopped in the car and 4hrs later we were seeing the sights ☺️ Does anyone else find that those last minute trips are the ones that turn out to be the best? #london #londonwithkids #londonwithtoddlers #dadlife #travelwithkids #unplannedtravel

We don’t paint everyday. But paints are freely accessible. Today he wanted to use paint to tell the story of a train that traveled through the forest and crashed into water. He finished his painting by cutting it away from the paper roll. He then decided to write his name on the top, because he’s an artist.

Went back to the minimalist playground near the Aldgate horse fountains and played there for two hours. Tiny but we’re all proper obsessed with it. It’s by @eibeplayltd and it’s really cool - all wood panels and undulating hills, and not a boring piece of equipment in sight. Swimming pools and bathing have many health benefits and are synonymous with summertime. With record breaking temperatures in London, cool off with a look at one of Bermondsey’s lost baths. From the 1840s London's local authorities began to construct public baths in an attempt to cleanse and civilize the urban poor. Bermondsey first opened one for local dockers in Spa Road in 1853. Legislation required first and second-class provision. Charles Dickens's 'Dictionary of London' (1879 ) listed a first-class bath with hot water cost 6d (£1.57 ) and a second-class cold bath at 1d (26p ). A bath in tepid water was 4d (£1.04 ) and 2d (52p ) respectively. Determined to provide the best public baths of their kind, these were demolished in 1927 and replaced with an expensive, ornate establishment in Grange Road which boasted two swimming baths, 126 private baths, four baths for babies and Turkish and Russian vapour baths. As only 150 homes out of 20,000 in Bermondsey had fitted bathrooms, one national newspaper thought the money should be better spent. Denouncing this costly 'palace of baths’ with its ‘marble halls, stained glass windows and Turkish baths that few can afford’, they would, it claimed, have satisfied ‘even the most luxury-loving Roman patrician.’ The baths quickly became a place for men to meet for sex and socializing. By the 1950s Bermondsey was notorious in gay circles. The talk in the West End was 'if you want a docker, go to Bermondsey baths.' Actor Kenneth Williams went there for 'traditional interest' in 1958 and found it 'quite fabulous.' The baths also featured in the first English novel to openly discuss homosexuality, Rodney Garland’s The Heart in Exile (1953 ). They closed in 1973. . . . . #oldoptheatre #localhistory #southwark #bermondsey #backinlondonbridge #rediscoverlondonbridge #atlondonbridge #supportindependent #supportsmallbusiness #staycation #staycation2020 #staycationuk #staycationlondon #exploreengland #londonwithkids #lockdownwithkids

[AD] I am obsessed with the new wooden world of Peppa Pig toys and as you can see, Mila absolutely loves them too! Firstly, they are lovely quality and sustainable - but they will also look beautiful in any home! The final pieces of the range such as the aeroplane and classroom are definitely at the top of Mila's Christmas list! . #PeppasWorldOfWoodenToys is available from @amazonuk - I've popped a swipe up in our stories 💖 @charactertoys

The disCONNECT show by @schoeniprojects x @hkwalls is predictably brilliant, housed in an enormous Clapham townhouse and featuring site-specific work by 10 wildly different artists. It slightly reminded me of last year’s Colony Sound exhibition by Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe at Marlborough Gallery, only not quite so batshit, and also of Lazinc’s Watch This Space (one of the artists who made work for that also features in disCONNECT ). I couldn’t pick a favourite room but I particularly loved @aida_wilde ‘s pandemic-panic-themed Granny Alley and Nanny Loo, and I’m pretty sure Roma did too. disCONNECT is open Wednesdays-Sundays until the 24th of August and you can book a free ticket via the Schoeni Projects site. Huge thanks to the brilliant Jay who gave us an amazing private tour and put us totally at ease even though Roma was being... well, Roma 😑 (actually I was just thinking that bottom-middle poster is probably quite an accurate visual representation of the inside of her mind ). And big love to the amazing @bigfatsatsuma for letting us know about this incredible show in the first place. Every time we visit a really cool playground I add it to my “Coolest playgrounds in London by area” blog post (link in bio - I got Linktree, check me out ). My criteria for what makes a “cool” playground is pretty arbitrary. I like ones that are weird or unusual or leafy or just have a nice “feel” to them, and almost always prefer tiny quirky ones to massive, generic ones that have everything. This is Wingfield Park in Walthamstow. Technically it’s a good playground offering everything a kid could ask for, but I didn’t put it on my list because - wooden dragon sculpture with climbing wings aside - it looked like a billion other playgrounds we’ve been to. “But surely your kids don’t care what a playground looks like,” you might say, but I know for a fact Babu’s favourite playground in the world is Paddington Rec, because it “looks really cool”. So there. There are now 56 playgrounds included in my cool playgrounds post and we’ve still got a fairly hefty list to work through (don’t worry, I know I’m completely bonkers ). . . . . . . . . . . #coolthingsfortinylondoners #londonwithkids #thingstodoinlondon #ilovelondon #mylondon #londonbylondoners #ldn #london #hiddenlondon #secretlondon #playgrounddesign #playground #playgroundfun #londonplayground #londonfamily #londonmum #wingfieldpark #walthamstow #e17

It’s been more than TWO YEARS since I saw the Goodman’s Fields fountains on @londons_little_explorers and added them to my list but today we finally made it! Ok so it’s essentially just a nice water feature in the middle of a swanky new housing development in Aldgate, but it’s massive (this is only part of it ) and SO GREAT for kids to play in. The beautiful horse sculptures are by @hamishmackiesculpture and there are six of them surrounding the fountains. This was the reassuringly shallow, Ro-friendly one, while the one out of shot to the left was much deeper. We tagged this onto the end of our day because we happened to be in the area but ended up loving it so much we stayed and had dinner in the square 🍕💦 🐎 . . . . . . . . . . #coolthingsfortinylondoners #londonwithkids #thingstodoinlondon #londonfountains #fountain #aldgate #whitechapel #thecity #hiddenlondon #secretlondon #mylondon #ilovelondon #londonbylondoners #londonmum #londonparents

This pretty building never fails to take my breath away and the fountain court was so blissfully quiet when we paid a visit yesterday lunchtime. I’ve been waiting for @somersethouse to switch these on ever since July when they posted the really misleading picture (of the fountains ) to announce they were reopening... except without the fountains 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, they finally sprung back into action on Thursday and are now accompanied by a very pretty if slightly extortionate food truck selling coffee, ice cream and toasties. The free Mushrooms: The Art, Design and Future of Fungi exhibition is still on and, most importantly, you can pop in and have a wee 🙌 . . . . . . . . . . #coolthingsfortinylondoners #londonwithkids #thingstodoinlondon #welovelondon #somersethouse #fountains #secretlondon #hiddenlondon #ilovelondon #mylondon #familylondon #londonbylondoners #londonmum

Adam told me he drove past a cool new playground in Victoria Embankment Gardens on his way home from work yesterday and I didn’t believe him because I couldn’t find any internet evidence and if it doesn’t exist on the internet it’s not real. We were headed that way today anyway so I thought I’d humour him (to be fair this morning he was like “actually I might have been hallucinating” ) but GUESS WHAT? IT’S REAL 😮 It’s by @kompan .de and, while small, comes complete with swings, a slide, balancing walkways and a little boat. So if you’re ever near Embankment/Somerset House and in desperate need of a playground then this is the one. Good work Bab Dad, I’ll never doubt you again 😉 . . . . . . . . . . #coolthingsfortinylondoners #londonwithkids #thingstodoinlondon #playground #playgroundfun #playgrounddesign #hiddenlondon #secretlondon #mylondon #ilovelondon #londonmum #londonfamily #londonbylondoners #victoriaembankment #victoriaembankmentgardens #embankmentlondon

I love the Fourth Plinth. Did you know it was originally meant to hold a statue of William IV on a horse? How dull would that have been? Such a good job they ran out of money and ultimately decided it would house temporary works. We loved this daft squirt of cream with a cherry, fly and drone on top. It’s called The End and it’s by @heatherphillipson . The drone is rigged with a camera producing a live feed of Trafalgar Square, so you can actually see yourself on-screen. It’s also the first Fourth Plinth commission to be fully accessible to the visually impaired, featuring a braille description on the sculpture’s plaque and an audio description of the artwork online. Apparently there was talk of Margaret Thatcher’s memorial statue being placed on the Fourth Plinth when she died (can you imagine?! ) and there’s also a rumour that a statue of the Queen will be placed there when she dies. Personally I love the rolling programme of temporary artworks, even if some of them are (brilliantly ) ridiculous. Last night I found out my favourite play cafe/play centre back home (and also in the whole world ever ) is set to go into liquidation. I’ve been feeling sad about it all day. Not just because we won’t be able to visit when we’re up in Harrogate anymore, but because it potentially spells the end for many/all play cafes: places where we and so many other families have whiled away countless happy hours and made special memories - and if not that then at least we’ve managed five minutes of respite and a decent cup of coffee while our little horrors destroy someone else’s stuff for once. I was looking through a 7 Things play cafe post I wrote ages ago and I realised that since then three of them have shut for good, one has changed hands and names, and the other three are probably only still going because they’re all cafes before they’re play centres, which is fortunate for them, but shit for us, since I somehow doubt that any of them will ever be able to reopen in their previous incarnations. And that’s before we even get started on soft plays, indoor play areas, play groups and family clubs like this one pictured here. I hope they all manage to find a way to make it work but, if our Yorkshire friends are anything to go by, it doesn’t look hopeful ☹️ (Btw if anyone has any good news please hit me with it. I need cheering up ). . . . . . . . . . . #coolthingsfortinylondoners #thingstodoinlondon #londonwithkids #softplay #hiddenlondon #secretlondon #ilovelondon #mylondon #londonbylondoners #playcafe #londonparents #londonmum
