It’s okay to take a step back life can be really busy and can get too much sometimes, social media will be there when you get back, those who care will still be there waiting and will understand.⠀ 🌸⠀ I’m not taking a break but I’ve been quiet on here because I’ve been so busy with college and and uni applications so if I’m being honest I’ve just not had the time and energy to post.⠀ 🌸⠀ I am always active in here constantly reading all your posts and any dms, thank you to those who have stuck around sadly I have list a few followers so I really appreciate everyone.⠀ 🌸⠀ Especially with everything going on with insta it is harder for my posts to be seen sadly so I think now is the right time to just focus on college and not let the number of likes on a post distract me. ⠀ 🌸⠀ I will try to post at least once a week. Hope everyone’s doing okay hope October is a good month for everyone ❤️xx ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthisimportant #mentalhealthrecover #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthquotes #mentalhealthtips #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthisreal #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalillnessrecovery #recoveryispossible #mentaldisorders #positiveaffirmations #positiveaccount #positiverecovery #mentalhealthwarrior #endthestigma #selflove #mentalhealthstigma #mentalwellness #breakthestigma #itsokaynottobeokay #edawareness #supporteachother #trusttheprocess #mentalhealthjourney #suicide #suicidehelo #stopweighingchildren

I grew up in a time when Tumblr, Instagram, and social media were just beginning to gain traction. I still remember getting on Tumblr and my thirteen year old self being bombarded with “Pro-Ana” (pro-Anorexia ) images and feeling as if my ribs showing and a thigh gap were the ideal that I should aspire to. I will tell you, and honestly tell you, that it took me at least 25 years (if not longer ) to fully and truly believe that my ideal body type should be “healthy”, “happy”, nothing more, and nothing less. I recently watched the documentary, The Social Dilemma. One portion of the film that stuck out to me was the interview with NYU Professor and Social Psychologist, Dr. Haidt. According to the documentary, for girls who fall into the 10 to 14 age range, the figure for hospital admissions related to non fatal self harm has increased by 189 percent since social media became mainstream. Experts are seeing the same trend with suicide rates. The suicide rate of preteen girls (between the ages of 10 and 14 ) has increased by 151 percent since the uptick of social media (The New York Times ). I learned early on in my Psychology career that correlation does not automatically equate to causation. Despite this, the trend in mental health admissions and suicide rates for young women is alarming and impossible to ignore. As with everything in life - and as the documentary highlights - there is always light and dark. Social Media has catapulted some amazing campaigns, reunited family members, and allows us to share our passions and good news with others around the world! Despite this, there is also a dark side. ∙ how does social media impact modern day relationships and dating? ∙ how does it impact self esteem and self worth? ∙ what is healthy social media usage and how can we encourage this? ✨✨✨ #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #therapistsofinstagram #socialworker #socialworkerlife #lmsw #followme #followers #followtrain #following #liketime #likesforlike #socialworkers #socialworkersofinstagram #mentalwellness #therapy #therapists #therapyiscool #therapyisdope #counselorsofinstagram #counseling #counselor #counselorsfollowcounselor

Grief can be so overwhelming and confusing. You think you have a handle on it and then you look up and see the mountain that you still must concur. The reoccurring question is, “when will this be over?” I’m learning that the loss will never stop hurting the only thing time will bring is appreciation for that hurt. Appreciation for knowing the person that loved me so much that I feel the loss when I want to share just one more moment. You are not alone, we’re hear to listen. . Grief is not only caused by death. After the presidential debate I feel we are all grieving, if we weren’t already. It’s okay to be overwhelmed, angry, lonely. It’s also okay to grieve and be happy. You are beautiful and your mind has the capability to feel more than one emotion at a time. . I’m happy to talk about my mental health to anyone who asks about it, so you could say it’s no longer a taboo. But have you noticed that far less people are open to reacting or INTERacting with posts on social media? When I post about a new recipe I make, or post photos of my kids I get a decent amount of likes and comments. When it’s about mental health : silence. To me that suggests it’s still a taboo, and as long as that’s the case I’ll talk about it. I talk to my family, my friends and most importantly my kids about it. I don’t tell my kids the details they’re too young for, but they are aware that brains can get “sick” and need medicine sometimes. They know mental health is a thing just like physical health is a thing. I think that’s vital with the next generation. I want to raise my kids to be knowledgeable, tolerant and accepting of others, and mental health is one more thing I think parents need to teach them 🧠 Art by @crazyheadcomics #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #depression #anxiety #antidepressants #itsokaynottobeokay #lookaftereachother #parenting #raisegoodpeople

This is heartbreaking 💔 This could so easily be my story and will be that of many more unless something is done. It is utterly unacceptable that people in need of support are shoved on a waiting list and forgotten. It people’s lives that this lack of funding and resource is toying with and it has GOT TO STOP! The government has pledged more funding for mental health services, but where is it? We’re not seeing it on the frontline and the people who desperately need it are STILL being abandoned. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP. Mental health. 🧠 You hear someone say those words and you run away from the conversation. But really everyone should run towards the conversation.🏃‍♀️ You run away cause you will never admit that you are struggling yourself with mental health. You have your own problems and really don’t want to hear about other people's issues. You feel that you can't help them or even relate, cause you think people who suffer from mental health issues are wackos or crazy people. But in reality, some of the happiest people are struggling on a daily basis to say a float. In 2016 in was estimated that 16.2 million people had at least ONE major depression episode. That was in 2016!!!! Before covid, before a presidential debate with to grown men acting like children, and before the shut down of the country. Can you even imagine what the #s are TODAY? I bet DOUBLE that or more. What I am trying to say is....we all struggle. Especially NOW! So all I ask is that you reach out to you friends, family, and co workers to make sure they are doing ok MENTALLY. We all may look happy and normal on the outside, but on the inside your mind is telling you nasty shit that is a LIE! "Everyone you know is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind!" - Robin Williams *disclaimer- this is not a cry for help. I am totally fine. I just wanted to tell you my thoughts on the subject.

AOC is at it again! ❤️💪🏼⁣ ⁣ Women are constantly battling for equal rights all over the world. In 1893 New Zealand was the First Nation to enshrine full female suffrage, (but we still weren’t allowed to stand for election until 1919 ) The UK allowed women to vote in 1928. Saudi Arabia only allowed women to vote in 2015. The Vatican is the only place in the world where women can’t vote. (They only allow cardinals to vote )⁣ ⁣ We have come so far, but still have SO FAR to go. 💪🏼⁣ ⁣ There is a recent report from the UN, that says it will still take almost a century before women can expect to achieve equality with men. That means almost NO WOMAN alive today will experience gender parity. ⁣ ⁣ It’s important woman keep working towards an equal future in all aspects of our lives by being strong and powerful. ✌🏼❤️

💚The impact of mental abuse can be felt long after it takes place - it can rewire your beliefs, shut off emotions and increase their complexity, and lead to behavioural issues like avoiding intimacy . 💚This post gives some tips to help start the process of healing - we hope it brings some insights and helps challenge certain perceptions you may have that don’t serve you . 💚This is our first in-depth post on “healing” and is a response to the strong demand for it after our post on mental abuse last week . 💚This isn’t therapy - we encourage working through mental abuse with a therapist. We just hope this starts the process / makes you consider some things you may not be aware of . 💚Please be gentle with yourself and patient - it takes time to heal and you deserve compassion . 👇Comment below: Did you find this helpful? Let’s talk about ✨ intrusive thoughts ✨ Intrusive thoughts are thoughts that seem to become stuck in your mind. They can cause distress, since the nature of the thought might be upsetting. They may also reoccur frequently, which can make the concern worse. Intrusive thoughts may be violent or disturbing. They may be thoughts about anything. They can also be about behaviors you find unacceptable and abhorrent. These thoughts, however, are just thoughts. They seemingly appear out of nowhere and cause anxiety, but they have no meaning in your life. They’re not warning messages or red flags. They’re simply thoughts. What gives them power is that those who experience them become worried about their significance. People may fixate on them and become ashamed, intent on keeping them secret from others. As long as you recognize that these are thoughts only and you have no desire to act on them, intrusive thoughts aren’t harmful. My intrusive thoughts are often telling me that I’m not enough, that I don’t matter, I’m a bad person or I’m a burden. Sometimes, I believe those thoughts, sometimes I don’t. I know I’m not the only one dealing with this so here’s a little reminder. Tag someone you love to remind them they MATTER ! ✨ Follow @what .is.mental.illness for more mental health tools & resources 🤍 _________________

SWIPE RIGHT 👉 Double Tap if you can relate! ❤️ Social anxiety is a big thing I’ve been working on recently. You know what’s fun? Work anxiety coupled with pandemic anxiety! Yeah, okay, so it’s not actually fun. Real talk friends, I put up a good facade of strength, but internally I’m freaking out that being back in schools, one of us is getting Covid sooner than later. You all know I’ve been using @resolvecbd to quiet my brain for quite some time now, but with the sheer magnitude of everything going on in the world, it’s of the utmost importance for me at the moment. I take one dropper under the tongue about 45 mins before bed, and it just helps to bring some peace before I sleep. Their CBD is organic and contains zero THC, which is so important because I won’t touch the stuff. I’ve converted so many friends into CBD lovers during this difficult time, and I can’t advocate for it enough. So often, we - as a society and the mental health institution - pathologize “disorders” such as ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ). ⠀ We tend to focus on the negatives: disorganization, restlessness, the struggle to stay on topic and get tasks done, and so on. However, what if, instead of only focusing on the challenges, we appreciated the gifts that those with ADHD bring to the table? ⠀ That’s not to say that there aren’t very REAL challenges and struggles associated with ADHD. There certainly are, and this post isn’t meant to diminish the struggles that those with ADHD face. ⠀ However, just as real are the strengths and uniquely wonderful traits associated with ADHD. ✨ ⠀ For example, in some contexts, impulsivity can be thought of as spontaneity and may add excitement to life. Being overly talkative can be thought of as having a bubbly and outgoing personality. Mind wandering can be thought of as having an active imagination. 💭 ⠀ What if we reframed ADHD from being a “disorder” to simply having a unique brain composition? What if, instead of labelling this as “bad”, we could acknowledge it as different, and celebrate all our differences? ⠀ What if, instead of trying to conform neurodiverse individuals to society, we could instead make changes in society to help ALL individuals thrive and be well? ⠀ What are your thoughts about this? Can you think of any other potential strengths associated with ADHD? ⠀ I’d love to know in the comments below! 👇🏼
