What’s your favorite #Japaneselit ? This is my current Japanese literature #bookstack . 😊 I’m still waiting for another book from Osusume Books, which is a surprise book pick. Highly anticipating whatever that book is. 😊 From this stack, I’ve read three: After Dark, Convenience Store Woman, and Strange Weather in Tokyo. I enjoyed the three books immensely. What’s common between the three books is how the author can immediately transport you to Tokyo and be immersed in Japanese culture. There are always food references that would make you crave so much, and subtle gestures that will make you interpret emotions. I’m looking forward to read Murakami’s Norwegian Wood since it’s highly recommended by a lot of bookstagrammers. I also have yet to try the writing style of another author, Durian Sukegawa, author of book with film adaptation, Sweet Bean Paste. 😊 Hope you can recommend some of your favorite books by Japanese authors. 😊 #japaneseliterature #japaneseauthor #harukimurakami #hiromikawakami #sayakamurata #duriansukegawa #afterdark #norwegianwood #sweetbeanpaste #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #bookish #booklove #bookgram #booksbooksbooks #bookaddict #bookworm #booknerd #booknerdigans #bibliophile #bibliophileph #bookcommunity #nagpostkaghorl

Bought myself a copy of vogue today as a little treat : ) I always feel so fancy reading it like I could be the heiress to a country estate who refuses to settle down and live the life her parents expect of her (Also the quotes on the second slide are Norwegian Wood, Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift, Vanilla Twilight by owl city, and Antonio Porchia respectively ) . . . #littlethings #darkacademia #lightacademia #darkacademiaaesthetic #forestcore #cottagecore #quotes #thesecrethistory #deadpoetssociety #classics #classiclit #poetry #englishliterature #englishlit #englishliteraturestudent #literaturememes #literature #literaturequotes #literaturelover #books #bookquotes #endings #taylorswift #owlcity #music #lyrics #memory #memories #harukimurakami #norwegianwood

I think it's time to add to my Murakami collection. I haven't bought one of his books for a few years! I absolutely adore his writing but I have to be in the mood for it - dreamy, relaxed and ready to be transported to a fantasy land in Japan. These ceramic dolls are from Kyoto - I'm not into knick knacks but I treasure these gifts! Haruki Murakami once wrote the following in an essay on jazz: “I've been hooked on several novels so far, and I've been immersed in seven different genres of jazz as well. But to me, Scott Fitzgerald was a novel, and Stan Gatz was jazz.” Murakami also said, “The artist who lived a life most influenced by jazz is definitely Stan Getz." 🥂 Personally, I think Stan Getz’s Bossa Nova style of jazz is best for a simple summer meal and a glass of wine in the evening. Let’s enjoy it during the few remaining summer nights of the month. #Stangetz #joaogilberto #thegirlfromipanema #HarukiMurakami #60sjazz #petercatofficial #1q84 #norwegianwood #jazzmusician

In The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle we are lost in the life of Toru Okada, a 30 year old husband, having recently left his job with a positive attitude toward change and a fresh start yet having no plan at all. The journey of this book takes you on a cold journey. Murakami understands the failings of a person maybe. [ healing takes place in personal space here ]. There is so much to talk about this book yet I have nothing to say. All I want is to climb down the well and sink into the darkness of my own thought. 🖤 #readmorebooks #reading #reader #readmore #readingisfun #rusticwindow #ohmybook #bookstagram #bookreview #booksbooksbooks #palaceofillusions 📖 #brontë #love #reading #lovetoread 📚 #mybookshelf 📘 #prettybooks #vintagebokks #kafkaontheshore #murakami #absolutelove #flowers #reading #norwegianwood #beatels #toru #lovereadingbooks ❤️📚 #colourlesstsukurutazakiandhisyearsofpilgrimage #colourless #sputiniksweetheart #elephantvanishes #windupbirdchronicle

✍️ Powieść „Norwegian Wood” napisana w Grecji i we Włoszech jest książką, którą przeczytał „każdy” w Japonii. . . 📚 Czytaliście? . #wydawnictwomuza #doprzeczytania #bookstagram #czytambolubie ̨ #czytaniemoja ̨pasją #powies ́ć #powies ́ćwszechczasów #książkiwszechczasów #klasyka #klasykaliteratury #czytaniejestważne #classicliterature #quotes #cytat #kochamczytać #bookstagrampl #terazczytam #terazczasnaczytanie #hurakimurakami #norwegianwood #murakami

"What happens when people open their hearts?" "They get better."- Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.🌼 . It is a story of love, friendship, nostalgia, emotions, suffering and so on.🍃 The story has the perfect beginning; Toru Watanabe, the main protagonist of the story listens the song -'Norwegian Wood', the favourite song of Naoko, the first love of his life. Walking through the meadows, his memories took him back around 20 years when Naoko accompanied him through the grasses of the same meadow.🍃 .. The second plot portrays author's college life & all the chaos around it. Here he bumped into Naoko who was the girlfriend of his best friend Kizuki. Kizuki committed suicide on his 17th birthday. His death deeply touched both of them. Toru feels the influence of death everywhere, while Naoko feels as if some integral part of her has been permanently lost. . Later another woman Midori marched into Toru's life. She appears her positive energy, her smile, her madness & with some secrets she carried inside.🌼 The Beatles song features through the novel. Some lyrics of the song- "I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me", pretty much describes the relationshop of Toru with Midori. .. And the story continues with love and it's complications. . I personally don't like the female characters that much , I somehow find them confused, weak and dependent. .. As usual Murakami's writing is what I loved the most about this book. He portrays some different sides of a teenage life, which will hurt you like a teenager, make you want to walk through the meadows with your loved ones and listen to Beatles. .. This is one of the book that leaves some permanent unforgettable yet good vibes lingering around you after you finish this book. I couldn't come out of that world several weeks after I read the book. QOTD : Which book left you with a long lasting impression? .. .. .. .. .. #norwegianwood #harukimurakami #kafkaontheshore #vintage #currentlyreading #reading #readersofinstagram #readingtime #bookreview #booknerd #followforfollowback #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #bookstagram #bookphotography #peace

Do you reread books? There are two of my favourite books, Norwegian Wood and Pachinko, both of which I read for the first time last year ✨ Norwegian Wood I have been thinking about a lot recently, and I think I might give it a re-read soon! My boyfriend actually learned to play the eponymous Beatles song on the guitar for me and it's one of my favourite songs so that made me extra nostalgic 💫

// Book Review // I picked up Norwegian Wood as a lot of people had suggested it to me. But, to be honest, it didn't sit very well with me. I do understand that this might be a very unpopular opinion, but the plot seemed too sad, without any ray of hope shining from anywhere. The incidents & the characters have manifested from the negative experiences of life, but it seems like the characters lack inspiration or motive behind their actions. The story has been told from the perspective of Toru, our young protagonist, & his relationship with Kizuki, Naoko, Reiko & Midori. It tries to focus on the transition from adolescence to adulthood, chaining a string of events together from the lives of our five main characters, but I find the link to be feeble and forced. The story falls flat on it's face as it tries to handle suicide, and the causes behind it. A lot of sex scenes and interpersonal relationships seemed forced and unnecessary, so much that after reading half of it, I gave up. There was nothing in the story that pulled me back to the pages. However, what did make me pick it up for a second time is Murakami's narration. It's fast paced, smooth, flowing effortlessly from one page to another. To cut to the chase, if you're looking for something to read that cheers you up, makes you feel better and reminds you of home, this is probably not a book that you should pick up. However, if you're looking for a sad read, you should definitely pick this up. I regret picking up Norwegian Wood as my first Murakami read as I have heard that his other books are far better. If you feel the same, suggest me any of his books that you think I should read. Do let me know what you think about Norwegian Wood. Book no.16 for the year 2020: 🔻 Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami published by @vintagebooks 🔻 Retro English rock music fans would associate the title of the book with the song originally composed by Beatles, written by John Lenon. Lenon’s fans would also know that the song was the result of his extra marital affairs 🔻 The protagonist Toru Wantabe goes back in time, to his days of youth and university, on listening to the Beatles song being played. The song not just makes him nostalgic about his love affair with beautiful and damaged Naoko 🔻 Toru thinks about the last time they walked together on a snow covered landscape near to the mental health institution where Naoko was under treatment 🔻 Shortly after that Naoko commits suicide while Toru’s life continues a part of him still yearns for Naoko 🔻 So years back, Toru moves to Tokyo for further studies because he wants to get away from the pain of his best friend’s suicide 🔻 Naoko, the then girlfriend of his dead friend also comes to Tokyo and a chance encounter one day brings them together 🔻 Eventually Toru falls in love with Naoko 🔻 But Naoko is broken and is trying to fight her own demons 🔻 Then comes Midori, who on the outside is fun and vivacious, just like every other adult is trying to get her life on track 🔻 Midori falls in love with Toru but it is not as easy as it seems 🔻 Life moves and they find themselves in a deep pool of passion, grief, casual sex, weird friendships and death 🔻 Murakami creates an intricate web of plots in a fluid and breezy language. Though the book is not preachy and does not delve deep into philosophy, the characters by their actions and conversations share deep and profound philosophy 🔻 Pick up this book Read it slow Feel the pain Don’t expect any closure! Who are you to get, when the characters are still searching for it!! 🔻 #norwegianwood #murakami #harukimurakami #japan #tokyo #japaneseliterature #translation #murakamireadingclub #murakamiappreciationsociety #readingchallenge2020 #quarantinereads #lockdownreads #bookreview #bookrecommendation #bookreview #readingnottrending #beatles #johnlennon

Sleep deprivation is affecting my routine, I can't properly sleep because of the July's heatwave, but this morning I found myself running some errands and when I got back home it was still breakfast time so I read some pages of The Waves and I'm loving it. I actually read it last year, superficially I guess, because it's a bloody stream of consciousness masterpiece, and I'm slowly enjoying every words. I actually own Woolf a lot, because thanks to her works I've got passionate in reading and writing. I'm also reading Norwegian Wood, which is very engaging, and sporadically rereading A Room of One's Own because it's my favourite book about feminism and I wanted to write a proper review this time.
