My first reaction when I put these pictures side by side is wow, just wow! ⠀ The girl on the left was about to graduate college with her nursing degree! This picture was taken at my nursing pinning ceremony a year ago! I just finished up the toughest years of my life and I finally made it! I focused so much on passing my classes and studying constantly that I lost myself a little along the way. Taco tuesday turned into, taco tuesday, wednesday, and thursday! I was stress eating and not really caring what I fueled my body with. ⠀ Flash forward a year later and I am so proud of what I have accomplished! I have almost been working as a pediatric nurse for a whole year now. I not only have constant support from family and friends, but I have found a community of women who are truly there for me and push me to be the best version of myself. My confidence has increased so much and I plan on never going back to my comfort zone ever again!🌟 ⠀ I have found myself again! I have found the passion and fire that was always there. I learned how to take care of myself, as well as, focusing on being the best nurse I can be for the tiny little humans I take care of💛 ⠀ The door is always open for anyone who wants to join in on the love and support! I’m always just a message away sis💌

Started another new adventure today by starting at John Hopkins! This has been an exciting new time for us and starting work and getting into a “pattern” will feel nice: ) I’m learning new things everyday since living here. Today was to always be thankful you “get” to go to work, primer is your best friend in Florida weather, don’t forget your sunglasses, and if you aren’t driving 80+ then you’re a slow driver 😂 #thankfulfortoday #newjob #nursing #pedsnurse #embracechange

I recently shared within the Simple Shifts in Motherhood group that life had been getting just a bit crazy. Mom life is a lot, working mom life is a lot, working mom life running a business is a lot. And sometimes it’s all A LOT! So here’s exactly what I did (and what you can do ) so as not to spontaneously combust: Shrink your bandwidth: what is absolutely essential and what can be paused or put aside in the short-term? Set firm boundaries: once you decide on what is crucial and what is not, don’t give in. Get really good and comfortable with saying “no”. Outsource: who or what can you enlist to help out? Communicate and ask for what you need! For much, much more I'd like to personally invite you to my LIVE upcoming webinar entitled The 3 Ways to Reverse Feeling "Defeated and Depleted" in Motherhood. Register here >>> http://laurieann.click/live-training and consider it an evening of self-care. If you can't make it live due to time difference or other obligations, register anyway and I'll email you the replay! . . . . . #workingmomstruggles #workingmommy #fulltimeworkingmom #worklifebalanced #workingmomslife#faceofdepression #depressionsurvivor #depressionfighter #depressionwarrior #postpartumdepression #depressionrelief#pedsrn #nursemommy #pedsnurse #pedslife #pedsnurselife #nurselifern #pediatricnurse #nursemom#boymomof2 #boymomx2 #boymomsrule #boymomadventures #boymomforlife #boymomsrock #realmotherhood #honestmommin #momsofboys#timemanagementtips#gratitudeistheattitude @practicegratitude

My momma said hold your tongue! 👅 If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all! • • • The tongue is such an important part of your body. What you speak and how you use it has power. Use your tongue to Declare: 1️⃣ Abundance. You may not have it all, but you have to envision it. You have to say it. • 2️⃣ Happiness. Happiness doesn't happen "when" you get there. Happiness happens when you Decide you'll no longer be the victim. When you stop feeling sorry for yourself and you stop making excuses. • 3️⃣ Health. Get up! Stop saying you can't eat better. That you can't exercise. That you can't visit the doctor. That you don't have time for self care. Declare and Act! • 4️⃣ Positivity.. 🚫 NO MORE, "it just is". You can't change your speedbumps sometimes, but YOU CAN change your Reaction and therefore change your outcome. Let's face it 💩 happens. But your reaction to it can either mean: you "WALK OVER IT OR, OR YOU STEP 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ RIGHT ON IT". • • • #nursetalk #nursegrind #nursesofinstagram #instanurse #nursesrock #pedsnurse #traumanurse #miami #photography #wynwood #nursessupportnurses #nurselife #nursesinspirenurses #positivevibes #freshvibe #freshvibetribe

If there is one item similar to burnout it is glitter. . . If you are one of the few who has never done arts and crafts with glitter, there is one known fact.  . . Glitter gets everywhere and I MEAN EVERYWHERE. . . No matter how hard you try, it's not really a surprise to find a sparkly stray or two a few weeks later in your hair. . . The same thing goes for burnout. . . You think if you just have better boundaries, keep your mouth shut, and do a little more self-care, that the burnout will go away. . . But it doesn't.  . . Instead you become resentful because it feels like no one respects you. . . You can't stop talking about how horrible work is to your family and friends. . . You try desperately to feel better by spending tens of thousands of dollars on wine, chocolate, fast-food, clothes, and doing Eat/Pray/Love trips.  . . Burnout has officially glitter bombed your life.  . . And the reason why these things don't work is because they don't fix the real problem.  . . You have lost control of your career and don't have the tools to fix it.  . . So how do you make it better? . . My biggest tip is to stop trying to change your work environment or ask people to help you figure out the short-staffing which you have no control over. . . Instead focus solely on yourself. . . And I don't mean in a high-vibe kind of way, because fake joy will not fix burnout.  . . Be willing to own and sit with the parts of you there are ashamed, hurt, scared, angry, bitter, jealous, resentful, and/or disappointed.  . . Instead of judging yourself as a good person or a bad person, view yourself as a human doing the best they know how to do. . . And finally, tell yourself that your burnout does not define who you are and where your career will go.

It’s here! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We started the new workout program and I am already sore! In a good way!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seriously, with the daily stresses of life, these 30ish minutes for ME are just what I need. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some facts I’m focusing on: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏋️‍♀️ High intensity workouts like #mbf burn calories and fat... long after you finish working out- so, I am essentially turning my body into a fat burning machine! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💦 Asymmetrical movements and my new Jump rope thingy (that I haven’t gotten just yet ) will keep the workout fun and moving! I am sweaty and finished in no time! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧘🏻Stress relief! This world is so crazy right now- my workout totally keeps me sane and helps clear my head! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Want in? I have a few more spots left in my test group and would love for you to join me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Drop your favorite emoji below and I’ll send over all the details!

Lately I’ve been listening to a podcast, “mindset mentor,” and let me tell you, it really hits home. Part of what is discussed is fears that hold us back from reaching our goals, anxiety and how it affects us, and health in general. A few days ago a friend dragged me out of bed in the middle of the day (for those who don’t know I work nights and sleep days ), and took me on a beautiful hike. She was RIGHT! She said “Millie it’s going to hurt going up but the view is beautiful.” I felt accomplished, and as we made our way down, the cloud of water caught us and cooled us down. What a beautiful day. Nothing better than a great hike to calm the mind and feed the soul. . . . . . . . . #nurselife #nightshiftnurse #pedsnurse #hikes #workoutRN #natureislife

... summer is here 🏊🏼‍♀️🌞 and most public pools have reopened... which means more kiddos are at risk of severe injury from drowning • please, watch your kids attentively when they are in the water. Any water, a lake, pool, kiddie pool, bathtub... you got it? • keep your younger kids within arms reach • Put a life jacket/vest on all kids In public places - like a boat, beach or lake • Install a gate around your home pool that is AT LEAST 4 FEET TALL, and has a self-latching system to prevent kids from getting inside • Keep up to date with CPR & water safety basic skills • Start swimming lessons and basic water safety classes for your kids at a young age (they even have some for babies as young as 6-12 months ) • use safety measures in house to prevent children from getting into sinks, tubs, & toilets without your supervision • dump out tubs of water outside (ex. kiddie pools ) right after use BUT most importantly always, always watch your kids when they are swimming. If you cannot, make sure there is a designated adult, who can swim, to watch them for you. * * More water safety info can be found on safekids.org 💙💙 #summer #watersafety #drowning #wearalifejacket #poolsafety #swim #2020

“Do as dreamers do. And all our wishes.... will come true!” The last few shifts have shown me how much I love working in the NICU. It has also shown me on what I need to work on. I need to understand that asking questions does not show weakness but shows that you are willing to learn and not assume. My co-workers have been great at answering my questions and reassuring me that I am doing well as a new grad nurse. As a nurse we must help each other. That is what helps our patients. To my new grad nurses keep asking all your questions! To my experienced nurses please understand you stood in our shoes ones and had those same questions. Have a great week everyone! Oh and wear a mask! 😷

Stop scrolling, take a breathe, and please read to the very last word. Jack may prefer not to wear pants, : ) but this is important. 💛 Remember when I told you one of my favorite things to do is watch my babies sleep? Whether it’s nap time or bedtime you will find me doing it, even for a short minute, every single day. Just today I think I finally realized why. Two of my friends lost their babies this week, one being the beautiful strong and amazing @littlemissmomma . Please please pray for her. 😭 I’ve re-watched these mamas watch their babies sleep too, over and over. Studying their fingers, toes, eyelashes, skin, and smell. Breathing every last bit of them in with all they’ve got. I’ve seen this before. Each time I have watched a parent lose their child as a nurse they do they same thing, from head to toe. Bringing them back to the place that matters most, where purpose is found, and where the deepest of deep divine love exists. Maybe you’re distracted by other things right now, and that’s ok — but when you kiss your babies goodnight ... wait a minute. Watch them breathe, smell their skin, study their features and be still. Stay in that place of gratitude for as long as you can. Imagine for one minute what your life would be like without them, because they deserve to feel that kind of love and some people are living that kind of reality. Many nurses would say they would never wish for anyone to have to see what they see, I couldn’t disagree more. I wish all of you could, just for a minute. It so beautifully aligns perspective and priorities, but most of all it helps you believe in yourself as a mama. Because you are reminded of the kind of love that exists in your heart for your own babies. It so clearly opens the heavens, and shows you that you are not at all alone in this job we call motherhood. My prayers today are for all of you, watching your babies sleep and for the broken hearted ones who can’t. God sees your effort and love so well, and He is proud. Watch out for His angels, because they are there watching out for YOU. xo

Ever been in the middle of a crazy shift and everything and everyone just seems to be moving a mile minute? Do you ever get the urge to just stop, breathe, and smile? Happy nurses week to my fellow colleagues! This was baby nurse Paola over three years ago! Nursing is a part of my soul, and I am so blessed to call myself a nurse. Nursing changed my life forever, and I cherish every moment of it. To me, nursing offers a world of possibilities, which is why I have never wanted to remain stagnant. As the profession evolves, I must evolve with it, making sure that I continue preparing myself to deliver the best care for my patients, while simultaneously paving the path for future nurses. In these three short years, I have worked in general pediatrics, pediatric critical care, and now pediatric emergency nursing! I have also worked as a clinical pediatric instructor and simulation assistant. I will continue on this path wherever God leads me, always ready to serve with humility and compassion. I cannot wait for what the future holds, as long as it involves kiddos of course ❤️ #pedsnurse #nursesday #nursesweek

I don’t remember where I heard it, but somewhere early on in our homeschool journey the words, “less homework, more heartwork” sunk deep deep down into my mama soul. There are many of you who did not choose this, and many of you unsettled and disheveled reaching your breaking point. I get it, believe me I do. Let me offer you some words that I wish someone would have told me. Tip 1. Let go of unrealistic expectations and do what feels best for YOUR family. There are absolutely no rules! You start when you want to start and you end when you want to end. Just somewhere in the middle CONNECT. Tip 2. Let go of the idea that you need to replace their teacher. You’ve always been their teacher, the very best they’ve got. There is no need to recreate a school room, simply a place of learning. Your kids need YOU more than they need anything else right now. Tip 3. Let go of the rigid schedule. This is really life changing, and something that most all the world can finally experience. 🙏🏻 Try planning your day in larger blocks and let what flows flow and what doesn’t doesn’t. One of the greatest lessons we can give our kids is how to respect boundaries and routines, but be flexible when they shift. Tip 4. Let go of the idea that they might fall behind. It’s unnecessary pressure. In a safe learning environment at home kids will always THRIVE. Focus on being present during your blocks with them over ANYTHING else. This is what they will remember. They may not remember that you taught them long division, but they will certainly remember how they felt when you taught them. Tip 5. Have snacks...all the snacks! I think this is the real reason my kids prefer homeschool over public school. And you snack too — because when you take care of yourself, you can take care of the whole dang world. Your babes are all under your wings again. You were the first face they saw, the first voice they heard, and the first place they learned from. You are their safe haven. Everyone in the world needs a safe haven right now, and you have the honor of being that for them. Let go of the extra weight, stress, and overwhelm. You are right where you need to be, and we are all in this together! ✨
