Double thumbs up because I’m finally cleared!!! • • These past 9 months have been nothing short of difficult and have tested me more times that I care to admit. But why am I posting about this, you might ask? I’m posting because with all the uncertainty that’s going on right now, it’s important to trust in the plan that God has for you. Many times throughout these past 9 months I was tested mentally and physically, but continued to prove to myself that I was capable of much more than I thought I was. I’ve learned that mental health is very important, and should never be disregarded. Our minds and bodies thrive off of positive reinforcement, and it is important that we have positive self talk. I’ve learned that our bodies need rest in order to perform at their peak. And most importantly, I’ve learned that we don’t always have to understand, but we must believe and stay the course. Stay grounded, express gratitude, and never ever give up. Tough times don’t last, tough people do🙌🏼

Fractura de Pelvis 🔥 Se trata de paciente masculino de 29 años que se accidenta en su motocicleta.Acude a urgencias con dolor intenso en la pelvis, con Radiografías observamos una fractura y luxación conocida como Fracturas tipo B-1, en libro abierto generadas por un mecanismo de rotación externa o compresión anteroposterior. Son fracturas con disrupción de la sínfisis del pubis e inestabilidad parcial del anillo posterior. Pasamos al paciente a quirófano , dónde con un abordaje ileoinguinal colocamos una placa de reconstrucción de 18 orificios para cerrar y fijar la sinfisis del pubis , y un tornillo canulado para cerrar la articulación sacroiliaca derecha la cuál estaba comprometida. Al día siguiente la cirugía , es posible movilizar al paciente , sin apoyar las piernas aún , pero con la capacidad de poder sentarse o ponerse de lado al estar acostado. 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 In his 1986 paper, Pains & Pain Sensations, Nelkin states, “I am not saying that there are no pain sensations. I have them. I am only saying that they are secondary and inessential to our understanding of pain. We can solve the puzzle of pain without solving the problem of sensations, and I think the first is more easily solvable than the second.” When having a pain experience, it’s easy to feel alone. The fact is these experiences are part of being human & living within a society. Although you may feel isolated, you are not alone & there are many folks willing to lend aid to help you through this experience (inclusive of us at @barbell_medicine ). Nelkin goes on to discuss regardless of the felt sensation (an itch, tickle, pain, etc ), our response is the determining factor - “...when one is deciding whether a particular sensation is a pain or a tickle or a pain or an itch, is one really deciding what the sensation feels like? Isn't one instead deciding what the appropriate attitude is? Isn't one asking oneself questions like, Is what's going on harmful or fun? and so forth? The sensation is what it is. The pain or tickle is something else. Deciding what the sensation is like is different from deciding whether it's a pain or a tickle. Deciding what the facts are is one thing; deciding what role they play in our lives is another. It is the latter sort of deciding that is predominant in the pain/tickle and pain/itch cases.” This line of thinking positions our role as clinicians for collaborative “sense-making” with individuals. Sense-making means attempting to understand the individual’s experience & deciding what variables related to their experience are warranting intervention. A trusted clinician can be helpful with this process. Although you may feel alone in this experience, remember we all have these experiences labeled as pain, our response to the experience is what tends to really matter in the long term. A major premise to our approach at BBM is instilling self-management tools so in the future should someone have a pain experience then they feel better equipped to manage. Need help? Why can stubbing your toe hurt more than a broken bone that’s comfortably sitting in a cast? Because pain is poorly related to actual tissue damage. Have you ever noticed a bruise on your arm yet, have no idea how it occurred? Similarly, lots of people show wear and tear on imaging (MRIs, ultrasound etc. ), yet experience no pain. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Pain is weird and and is often not experienced in proportion to tissue damage. - Did you know: - 96% of athletes under 22 years of age have “abnormal” findings on MRI (Rajaswaran et al., 2014 ). However, if nearly everyone has them, how abnormal can these findings be? Over 1 in 3 20 year-olds with zero pain have disc degeneration in their spine (Brinjikji 2015 ). 80% of healthy, symptom-free 50 years-olds have disc degeneration and 60% have disc bulging (Brinjikji et al., 2015 ). Almost 60% of those between the ages of 20-50 have cartilage and ligament tears in their hips, yet experience no hip pain (Tresch et al., 2016 ). - “You are not your MRI!” - See, if you’ve been to your doctor with pain, there’s a good chance that you’ve been told you have some tear, bulge, tendinopathy, bursitis or degeneration. But as we’ve seen, these findings on scans are often completely normal. You can think of it as “wrinkles on the inside”. They don’t always have to hurt, and occasionally they’re relevant - but not always. “Abnormal” findings are often actually “normal” changes and don’t fully explain pain. Now, I know you’re thinking: “But what about acute pain (stubbing your toe, paper cuts etc. )?” Great question, I’m glad you asked! When it’s acute pain, it’s better related to damage. But even then it doesn’t tell us too much about the damage. People have been known to break bones, snap ligaments and tear muscles and have no pain whatsoever. Other times, you can have a very small injury or strain and feel seriously injured for weeks or months. - For more info DM me!

‼️Shoulder Pain & Volleyball ‼️ If you're a hitter, you've probably experienced shoulder pain from Volleyball at one point or another. You've also probably had to ice your shoulders after a game or take pain killers before a game in order to play. Sound familiar? 📚In a survey of 2,352 volleyball athletes, 46% reported shoulder pain interfered with their ability to play. 77% of 30 surveyed volleyball attackers reported that their shoulder pain limited where they could place the attack shot on the court. Injured shoulders hold you back from playing at your best and making progress in your game. Similar to jumping being a repetitive motion that causes knee pain, hitting is also a repetitive motion that can lead to pain. Both of these are OVERUSE injuries. In order to avoid overuse Injuries, you need to train in a way that allows your joints to be able to handle the load placed on them during your sport (in our case, Volleyball 🏐 ) Resting your shoulder and/or avoiding hitting/serving will NOT fix the problem. If you want to improve your shoulders you need to.... 1. Get blood flow to the area to speed up recovery and healing. 2. Improve strength of the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint. 3. Improve flexibility of the shoulder, upper back, and internal/external rotation muscles. BONUS: making sure that you are swinging with the appropriate biomechanics will also help a ton 🧠 💪🏼In the 3rd slide, I am doing Band Pull-aparts to strengthen my upper back and get blood flow to my shoulder joints. First big DIY project! 🔨 Before and After! One of the reason why we bought this townhome is because of the garage space that was half converted. Unfortunately the floor was uneven 🚷, so this added a bit of a challenge but this is what we did: Removed previous flooring and baseboards Lay concrete (try 😬 ) to even the floor Lay wood flooring Install new baseboard Replaced doors and blinds 🚪 All In all, significant savings were made, and we’ve learned much from the experience! 🥰 Took us about a month between our jobs, and we had a blast! 🎉 Special shout out to the homies for their help and involvement 😎

UPDATE ______________________________ Ich bin eigentlich ein Mensch, welcher Tagsüber den Negativen Seiten des Lebens kaum Beachtung schenkt, somit denke ich auch ziemlich positiv. Ich bin schon immer ein kleiner Optimist😅 Mir haben die letzten Wochen viel Spaß bereitet, aber das reiten hat mir eindeutig gefehlt. Seit 3 oder 4 Wochen bin ich höchstens Schritt geritten. Gestern Abend bin ich das 1. Mal seit langen wieder "richtig" geritten, also länger als 10 Minuten und mehr als Schritt❤ Und es hat mich so glücklich gemacht😊 Ich war so glücklich die ganze Zeit über, als wir auf dem Stoppelfeld waren❤ Und ich konnte nicht mehr aufhören zu lächeln😂 Es war keine ewig lange Einheit, dafür war es auch zu heiß, aber die Oma war unfassbar Motiviert und es war eine sehr schöne Einheit❤ @justinasofficial hat dieses Wunderschöne Bild gemacht und paar sehr schöne Momente gestern Abend noch eingefangen❤ Ich muss dir auch einfach nochmal danke sagen @justinasofficial , dass du dabei warst❤ ich weiß net, ob ich mich alleine auf Maja gesetzt hätte❤😅 Fazit: für wirklich längere Einheiten, geht es noch nicht, mein Rücken hätte mich ja gestern Abend schon fast gekillt😅 aber ich glaube Maja und ich können jetzt wieder anfangen die Umgebung unsicher zu machen❤ Was habt ihr heute noch so vor? ______________________________ @wiebkesp

Spent the day putting some finishing touches on a chapter of my dissertation. My study involves investigating how clinicians identify risk for injury, specifically knee injury and the influence of strength on an athlete’s propensity for injury or joint degradation. . I have spent the past 7 years diving deep into the causes, measurement of, and research on strength and injury risk reduction. And the past 10 years working to rehabilitate injured athletes as an Athletic Trainer. I am so lucky that my research and practice have merged. . Too often, scientists don’t have access to the clinical applications. They build studies and test hypothesis but they aren’t necessarily hands-on. . Same goes for clinicians - they have to wait for the latest research to justify their methods, and often they have a difficult time identifying whether a study has been well-conducted. . I love that my hypotheses were fueled by what I saw on real bodies, in a real clinic. I love what I do. And I am so lucky to be bringing my background and findings outside of the walls of my business, a clinic, a laboratory and into the homes of thousands of users with @tonal and social media. . Recovery gives you so many things. It gives you freedom. It gives you happiness. It gives you strength, self love and motivation. But, best of all, it gives you spontaneity. I know what you’re thinking - what?! how is being spontaneous more important than being happy? Well, they’re all as important as one another, they are all key aspects of recovery. But, being able to be spontaneous means you can link them all together. Spontaneous days with friends because you can get out of bed. Spontaneous meals with the family and picking what you like instead of what your brain thinks is ‘acceptable’. Going for unplanned runs because you want to see the views at the top of the hill, not because you want to burn off your lunch. Spontaneous trips to the beach in your favourite bikini/swimsuit because your scars are no longer a burden to you. Recovery means you will be living your life to the fullest because you are in charge, not your illness. You will reclaim that happiness. Finally working with the one and only @christopher .barakat and I’m SO PUMPED I’ve been telling Chris for two years that when I go full time and finally pull the trigger on getting a coach, I’d be going straight to him. Two years is a long time but I kept my word! 😂 But seriously, there’s a lot of CRAP coaches in this industry (&big names w/ a bunch of clients doesn’t mean 💩 btw ) I’ve worked with or talked to a handful, and seen Logan’s fair share of bad prep coaches, so I’m not quick to trust many. But I trust Chris 100% and wouldn’t want anyone else overseeing my training, nutrition, and health. His research and education background, personal experience, and clients speak for themselves.
