THE 10K PROGRAM To prepare for a 10km race, you will need to do four to five running sessions per week, with two rest sessions to allow your body time to recover. WHAT IF YOU’RE NOT FEELING MOTIVATED🙈 . Our bodies & minds are SO connected- that I think sometimes when your body needs a break- it signals to the mind- like we’re tapped out here & doesn’t give you the mental push/desire to get after it. . Instead of feeling guilt over not having the itch to run— 👉🏽reassess what’s been going on lately . 👉🏽If you’ve been go, go go with life + training- then most likely- some time off could be the physical & mental break that your body needs to CRAVE it all again. . 👉🏽If you’ve been emotionally stressed & not getting great sleep— then most likely your body just wants some downtime. . I went through a period after overtraining where I was totally unmotivated & didn’t want to train. I realized after the fact that our bodies are SO smart. That they don’t want to push us over a cliff- so if they are feeling overworked (in ANY capacity )- they’ll pull the mental component as a way to SAFEGUARD you. . ⚡️*Training synergy* is when everything is on deck at once- you’re healthy, running what works for your body, feeling excited to get after it. BUT- if something is out of balance- then mentally you’ll feel conflicted or unmotivated. . 👉🏽The key is to really take note of what’s going on so that you make the *best* decisions for you. No coach, no rah rah instagrammer yelling ‘how bad do you want it’- knows you better than you know your body. Check in with that first. . ⚡️Knowing how to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY & ADAPT to its feedback is what is going to give you longevity & success in the sport. If you ignore all the body feedback- well that’s how you land into injury, overtraining, burn out, etc. . I think during the last few months- people have been feeling unmotivated— which may be coming from the extreme stress of the pandemic. Instead of feeling guilty- check in with yourself & give yourself some grace.😌 . 👉🏽So the next time you get down on yourself for being unmotivated or feeling “lazy”- ask yourself- is there a REASON why my body is asking for a break? And then adjust so that you’re listening & *honoring* your bod. . 🗣How do you handle periods of unmotivation?

I’ve ran 21 of 22 marathons under 3 hours (w/ the exception of my first ). Easy running makes up the bulk of my cycles. 278 miles for June includes several paces...intervals on the track, mile time trials, long runs, warmup/cool down, easy/recovery days. I put in work on the hard days too. Even with that all factored in, my overall average pace is still much different than my marathon pace, which is in the 5:50/mile pace range. Everyone trains different and not everyone will run that much slower than their race paces. You have to do what works for you! But this is what has worked FOR ME. So ask yourself..are you running easy enough?
