✨Gratitude Practice✨ So much research has shown that having a daily gratitude practice (of only 5-10 mins ) can make us significantly happier in the lives we live. And the good news is, we are never too young or old to start a gratitude practice! Mish and her 5 year old have a nightly gratitude practice during which they list 3 things that they‘re grateful for, that happened during the day. This allows Mish to gauge how her child experienced the day and her child gains a bigger gratefulness vocabulary. Win-win! Last night, the 5 year old was grateful for watching the sunrise with her family 💜 what happened yesterday that you’re grateful for?

My kindergartener has been loving simple, DIY games and we usually play as quick brain break during homeschooling. . I set up this feelings game for us to play together. The rules were simple: draw a card from the pile and move your piece to the feelings square on the board that matches the card. If you select a star card, pick up one of the star cards and respond to the statement asking about various feelings. There aren’t too many star spaces on the board because my kids quickly lose interest if there’s too much feelings-talk 😅, but it was a short, fun game that we played several times in a row. . This simple game is available as a PDF on the link in my profile (the cards are designed to be cut out and folded and glued in half so the confetti is on one side and the feelings faces or feelings statements are on the other side ). What are some of your kid/kids’ favorite games to play? . . . . . #learninggames #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning #simpleactivities #siblingsplaying #playbasedpreschool #homeschoolingideas #홈스쿨 #홈스쿨링 #kindergartenactivities #brainbreak #socialemotionallearning #socialemotionalskills #socialemotionaldevelopment #emotionalintelligenceforkids #emotionalintelligence

Let me say it again: It’s okay to feel your feelings. No matter what those feelings are. 😃😆🥰🤪😏🙁😔😫😤😡🤯😳😴 AND it’s okay for your students to feel their feelings. No matter what those feelings are. Feelings are tough. Feelings are tough because even as self-regulated and emotionally intelligent adults (or at least for the most part ) we still don’t know what to do with our feelings. Feelings are tough because we often don’t know what to do with OTHERS feelings. When I first got into this field (sped and aba ) I will be the first to say I didn’t embrace this part of the job well. I didn’t fully embrace that part of myself well. And I definitely didn’t embrace that part of my students well. Yes, I taught stress relief exercises and I taught muscle relaxation🧘🏼‍♀️. And I taught FCT all day long🗣. But I don’t fully embrace the notion of emotions and feelings as behavior. It’s a huge regret of mine. How much more successful and happy could my students have been if I had fully embraced this part of them? As Hanley always says (because you know I’m a Hanley groupie ) our goal is for happy😁, relaxed🙃, and engaged 🤓students. The last few years my passion truly has become feelings and emotions. Teaching what they are and more importantly teaching what to do with them. 🥰We all have feelings and emotions. 🥰 We all have BIG feelings and emotions. And we all have choices on how to handle and react to those feelings and emotions. In order to fully teach the whole child we must look within and help them look within as well. Let them FEEL those big feelings. 🌟Teach them what those feelings are. 🌟Teach them how they FEEL... like bodily sensations feelings. 🌟Teach them that feelings and emotions affect every part of us... head, heart, and body. 🌟Teach them what to do with those emotions. 🌟But most importantly, let them know those feelings are completely VALID... even if you disagree. And as a teacher... feel your feelings and know they are completely VALID. ❤️Let’s be the generation of educators that raises, inspires, and encourages the WHOLE CHILD. ❤️ ⬇️ How are you feeling today?

For those of you who may not know, my dear friend @yosoyyella and I have started a company called the Namaste Project. We teach mindfulness through yoga and meditation to organizations, schools, teachers, parents, and kids! We are hosting this fundraising event this Sunday and hope you will check it out and support 🙏🏾❤️🧘🏾‍♀️ The Namaste Project is excited to partner with Deana Panza Wellness, a provider of yoga, counseling, and meditation and breath work in the Atlanta area and online for this upcoming event. @deanapanza has been a vocal supporter of mindfulness for youth as well as racial justice and provides a variety of services to the community. ⁣ ⁣ During this session we will learn to use breathwork to calm the nervous system, relax, and turn inward. Next, you will enjoy a restorative yoga practice where you will use props from your home such as pillows and blankets to support your body as we relax and settle our bodies and minds. ⁣ ⁣ This practice is designed for any and everyone. No yoga experience is needed and all physical abilities can participate. Oh! Did we mention this will all be set to modern R&B music? ⁣ ⁣ The proceeds from this class will be used to provide support for programs and offerings from The Namaste Project and Deana Panza Wellness. ⁣ ⁣ We are requesting donations of 10 dollars with a discounted price of 5 dollars for participants in the field of education. If you cannot afford a ticket, please reach out for a sponsored seat. If you can afford more, please sponsor a scholarship student. ⁣ ⁣ The Namaste Project is also accepting donations in any amount outside of this class to support scholarships and sliding scale costs for mindfulness and meditation programming for youth. ⁣ ⁣ Please purchase your ticket via the link in our bio or via Cash App or Venmo to avoid ticketing fees. serkallai This is Dave👦. Taking care of Dave has not been an easy task for Jenny, Dave´s mother, since he tends to turn his house into a whirlpool, constantly jumping from place to place, struggles staying in a designated area for more than 5 minutes and frequently gets written up by his teacher, due to lack of attention.😝🤸‍♀️🏠 What Jenny doesn't know is that Dave battles with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ). This is a common behavioral disorder that affects approximately 4-8% of children who are of school age.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Let us show you some of the signs of ADHD. ** Connect with SER-KALLAI, subscribe, comment, share and learn more about our social-emotional resources at https://serkallai.org/💻 . . . #sel #socialemotionallearning #emotionalintelligence #eq #childhood #education #positivepsychology #traumainformedcare #healthcare #covid #covid19 #quarantine #anxiety #anxietydisorde

When designing a classroom to support social-emotional learning curriculum and skills, it’s important to consider the main aspects of SEL: community-building, student-centered discipline, and decision-making. ⁣On my birthday morning I looked at myself in the mirror and was pleased with the woman who stared back at me. I still can't believe I'm my age, as I do not feel that old, but I do notice signs of aging in my face. As I start to prep for my son's birthday in a few days, I definitely notice signs of aging in him, as he continues to grow and surprise me with all he learns.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Bringing our awareness to notice aging in things and people around us is practicing mindfulness. While aging may have a slight negative stigma, we could appreciate the changes in people and things as time passes. Personally, I appreciate the growth in my son and puppy... who both just keep growing! I appreciate the changes in the leaves during the fall season. I appreciate the beauty in my plants as they grow. And I even appreciate the sepia tint in old photographs.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ This week I challenge you to bring awareness to people and things around you and how they have aged - without judging these things or people. Perhaps you can appreciate the beauty and wisdom of age. Or perhaps you give things a facelift, like repairing an object or painting a room.

The ONE-rule rule! My student teacher “host” once told me to have one statement for the kids to strive for instead of a list of typical rules, and I loved the idea! That’s right, only one, and it covers it all! Since the start of teaching, I remember thinking how vague it is on rules posters to “follow directions” or “listen to your teacher.” I wanted to have something I could really refer to and have kids base their actions on it. The kids certainly break the rule from time to time, but it’s a great reminder to strive towards!🌟 #classroommanagement #behaviormodification #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #teacherlife #iteach #classroom #education #teachersofig #teacher #classroomorganization #teachers #iteachtoo #classroomdecor #behaviormanagement #socialemotional #socialemotionallearning #classroomsetup #elementaryschool #teaching #nea #bhfyp

I mean, I can’t believe this is the dystopian future we’re living in but here we are. I asked @clove .bird to add masks to our classic, beloved emotions set to help with this weird new world we’re all living in. I don’t have much more to say about it other than that they’re gorgeous and I hate that this is a thing. But- Montessori said we must prepare children for the world in which they live, and for the foreseeable future, that world includes masks. Link in bio. Buy it on its own or as a bundle with the original emotions to make a matching work. Have a good Thursday, friends. (This has posted 3 times and I don’t know why, I think I’ve fixed it now ).

Before they have tools to express themselves in other ways, kids often “tell us” and get needs met through play. What might they be “saying” when they’re asking to play? Anyone cringing reading this? Especially when we are stressed and overwhelmed, play can fall last on the priority list... and it may be when kids may need it most. How can we lower the bar and carve out space to be present with them in small bits, let them lead the way - meeting us and them where they are today? How can we get support to create this space when it isn’t accessible for us? Would love to hear your thoughts on this one.✨

For all the mamas, papas, parents, grandparents, and teachers out there...such a powerful reminder to start the week✨ Mindful parenting begins with being fully present and aware that your child is watching you, learning from you, soaking in ALL that you say and do (especially toddlers ) YOU are their compass leading them to the fullest expression of themselves. It’s such a huge responsibility and gift to BE that for our littles. We are creating the foundation for a new generation and a new world 🌍 Thank you for this inspiration @mrscowmansclassroom #rawmotherhood #realparenting #teacherwisdom

JUST SAYIN’ 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ Distance learning is definitely not ideal, but neither is classic schooling. Education needs some major restructuring — isn’t this an opportunity to finally make that happen??⁣ ⁣ Here are some of my thoughts and observations:⁣ ⁣ - 8 hours is too long, for adults and especially for children. ⁣ ⁣ - Movement and some level of social interaction is essential. ⁣ ⁣ - Classic ABC grading doesn’t accurately reflect student understanding or participation. ⁣ ⁣ - Asynchronous learning, or a blended approach, is actually better for some students and families. ⁣ ⁣ What do you think?? 👇🏼✨

Are you a chronic procrastinator, too? If so, drop a 💙 in the comments and LET’S TALK. ⁣ ⁣ I am soooo guilty of procrastination, but I’ve found a few strategies that help:⁣ ⁣ 1. Making to-do lists is beneficial, but not when the list is 50 items long. I’ve found that making to-do lists of 3-5 items at a time is less intimidating. ⁣ ⁣ 2. Remind yourself that you can start tasks and finish them later. Not everything can or should be completed at once if it overwhelms you. ⁣ ⁣ 3. Take breaks and forgive yourself if some things fall to the wayside. You can always ask for help. ⁣ ⁣ How do you fight chronic procrastination? Drop your tips below! 👇🏼⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Via: @lizandmollie

They include planning, organization, time management, task initiation, self control, flexibility, and perseverance. These skills aren't magically strong for kids and teens. They need to be discussed, taught, and practiced! Which skills do you notice your learners need?
