St. Kolbe was born in 1894 to a devout but poor family. As a teenager, he determined to become a Franciscan and so illegally crossed the border into the Austro-Hungarian Empire where he studied at the Conventual minor seminary in Lvov and entered the Order in 1910. Friar Maximilian was a brilliant student who excelled in what we would call today STEM subjects; after his profession, he was sent on for studies in Rome, where he earned doctorates in both philosophy and theology. #catholic #thequietfriary #catholicchurch #catholicism #morality #jesus #jesuschrist #offending #tolerant #saintquotes #saint #faith #values #truth #christian #Christianity #francis #saintfrancis #kolbe #assisi #italy #poland #nazi #concentrationcamp #kolbe #maximiliankolbe #auschwitz #priest #priesthood

Clare was born in Assisi in 1193. Her mother was Blessed Ortolana di Fiumi and her father is thought to be Favorini Scifi, Count of Sasso-Rosso. She was heavily influenced by St Francis of Assisi, hearing him preach at the church of St George of Assisi when she was 18 years old, an event that dramatically changed the course of her life. The day after Palm Sunday, 1212, St Clare visited St Francis at his chapel of the Portiuncula. Before the Blessed Virgin’s altar Clare took off her fine cloak and St Francis cut off her hair, giving her a penitential habit of coarse cloth tied with a robe. As there was no convent nearby, St Francis took Clare to the Benedictine convent of St Paul. Despite her family’s attempts to remove her, she soon moved to the Church of St Damian, with her sister Agnes. Joined by other women, they became known as the “Poor Ladies”. #catholic #thequietfriary #saint #saints #saintquotes #Francis #clare #assisi #italy #Jesus #JesusChrist #franciscan #poorclares #nun #nuns #religous #religioussisters #religion #poverty #chastity #obedience #vocation #vocations @poorclarepavocations @franciscanuniversity #franciscanuniversity

“We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become. If we love things, we become a thing. If we love nothing, we become nothing. Imitation is not a literal mimicking of Christ, rather it means becoming the image of the beloved, an image disclosed through transformation. This means we are to become vessels of God’s compassionate love for others.” #catholic #thequietfriary #saint #saints #saintquotes #Francis #clare #assisi #italy #Jesus #JesusChrist #franciscan #poorclares #nun #nuns #religous #religioussisters #religion #poverty #chastity #obedience #vocation #vocations

August 8th - Feast of the Founder of the Dominican Order! “You are my companion. We will work together, supporting one another toward the same end, and no one will prevail against us.” — St. Dominic to St. Francis In 1216 Dominic met Francis of Assisi in Rome. Having seen Francis in a vision the night before, Dominic recognized him and rushed to greet him. A close friendship sprang up between the two, and to this day Dominicans and Franciscans exchange visits on each other’s founders’ feast days as a sign of unity towards a common goal of the salvation of souls. These two pillars supported the Church from falling into ruin and helped repair what was damaged through authentic reform. #catholic #thequietfriary #saints #saintquotes #jesus #jesuschrist #dominican #dominicans #franciscan #francis #dominic #rosary #catholicchurch #catholicism #friarsop #orderofpreachers #friar #friars

Let us Continue to Keep America in Our Prayers. O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given usthe right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome— for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us— this great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. #catholic #thequietfriary #america #ReligiousFreedo #american #unitedstates #usa #military #police #protest #riots #christian #faith #hope #love #catholicism #CatholicChurch #traditionalcatholic #tradition #jesus #jesuschrist

From the Carmelites: “Let us pray for unity, justice and mercy, peace, mutual respect, respect and reverence for all life, and to not forget that your neighbor IS your brother and we all belong to one another. “Violence begets greater division and more violence…love changes hearts and love changes the world. Let’s change the world one heart at a time, beginning with our own. “No man is an island. I am my brother’s keeper. ♥️ 🙌🏻 🙏🏻” The Daughters of St. Elias “strive to live as contemplatives in the world–daughters of St. Elias (Elijah ), Father of Carmelites.” They “have two hours of mental prayer a day and live as their Holy Father St. John of the Cross.” #catholic #thequietfriary #protest #protest2020 #sisters #religous #carmelites #carmelites #traditionalcatholic #jesus #faith #hope #love

"If I had one sermon to preach, it would be a sermon against Pride. The more I see of existence...the more I am convinced of the reality of the old religious thesis, that all evil began with some attempt at superiority; some moment when, as we might say, the very skies were cracked across like a mirror, because there was a sneer." - G.K. This past weekend at the 10:00 Mass, I accidentally spilled some of The Precious Blood of Jesus on the carpet during Communion. I immediately placed a cloth purificator over the spill so that no one would step on the area until I could clean up the spill after Mass. After Mass ended, I went to the sacristy to get some water and additional cloth purificators to clean up The Precious Blood. When I came out into the main part of the Church, there were 3 nuns from The Children of Mary who had attended 10:00 Mass kneeling around the spilled Precious Blood with their faces down in adoration awaiting me to return. I, along with others, were quite moved by the sisters’ witness of the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. One parishioner was so moved that she snapped a picture and shared it with me. I thought later...How many of us would think to go kneel like that in adoration until The Precious Blood was cleaned up? Certainly something to reflect upon. Peace to all. ...Deacon Dad #catholic #thequietfriary #communion #Eucharist #preciousblood #precious #adoration #prayer #pray #scripture #scriptureverse #Bible #John6 #eucharist #tradition #catholicchurch #traditionalcatholic #religious #childrenofmary #rosary #jesus #jesuschrist #faith #mass #catholicmass
