As we end the month of June we wanted to provide an update. This month we paid the bails and immigration bonds of more than 91 folks. We will continue to work to #FreeThemAll
Good morning. Let's talk about "where the money went" and where it's going. All protest-related bail so far that has come our way has been paid and we're going to keep that up. At the onset of all this we set aside $10K for protesters, because it's what we had - not enough . A thread (1-6 )
Welcome to our page for our page new followers 💙. Please check out our responses to some Frequently Asked Question ➡️ link to website https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/frequently-asked-questions Our mission at the Minnesota Freedom Fund remains the same. The Minnesota Freedom Fund pays criminal bail and immigration bond for those who cannot afford to as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing.
Our cities and communities are in anguish and outrage over the brutal daytime murder of George Floyd, who lost his life to the deeply ingrained racism and historic violence of the Minneapolis Police Department, and monstrous actions of former officer Derek Chauvin. Three other officers remain uncharged. The world has shown up in support for those who are taking to the streets to demand the long-overdue end to police brutality that has taken the lives of too many of our black, brown and Native people. With solemn gratitude, we have been flooded with tens of thousands donations large and small, totaling around $20 million dollars. We did not ask for or anticipate this massive outpouring of support. We simply said yes to the call to support and bail out people jailed for protesting for justice for George Floyd. We will walk with transparency and accountability to use those funds to first and foremost pay bail for those who have shown up in love and grief and rage to demand justice for the murder of George Floyd, and then to post bail in our community for those who are held pretrial simply because they cannot pay and to post bonds to free people from ICE detention. We are dedicated to staying true to our central mission and the intent of these donations--which is freedom. We now encourage people to generously donate to George Floyd’s family and other local organizations, especially those which are Black and BIPOC led, and which are working to lift up communities, end police brutality, and build a more just future. Justice for George 🤍 Minneapolis police killed another Black man. On May 25th they killed him by kneeling directly on his neck for several minutes. Video shows George Floyd saying repeatedly that he couldn’t breathe and that they were killing him. Bystanders did the same, but police did not stop. George is no longer with us , and don’t let his name be forgotten. This senseless racist police brutality must stop now. Artwork by @andresitoguzman Follow @minneapolisnaacp for updates 🖤
This Mother’s Day we ask you to give a gift towards freedom 🖤. Women in jails are the largest growing correctional population. Overwhelmingly they are mothers. Send them home today. Donation link in bio 💙 Our goal is to raise $5,000 . Help us reach this goal in honor of mother’s today.
Mother's Day is May 10, and for many families, it's a great celebration of everything Mom's have done for their families. For some, it's a difficult day, as families are unfairly separated by the cash bail system. In this era of COVID-19 it is ever more urgent that we free folks. No one can social distance in a cage. Learn more about our COVID-19 response and the Minnesota Freedom Fund. This Mother's day, give a gift that will help pay bails and send folks home. Honor your Mom and tell your Mom that this year you're giving to the Minnesota Freedom Fund so other families have a chance to celebrate together. Leave a message recognizing your family in your donation, and share it widely! Celebrate, and help others be able to celebrate! Donate here 💙 https://www.givemn.org/story/3oz16g
We and a number of organizations in partnership with the @aclumn are urging @mngovernor to issue an executive order that temporarily releases people from prison into home confinement if they have pre-existing medical conditions or who are near the end of their sentences. Now is the time to act; it will save lives. #ActGovWalz
Last month the @startribune wrote an article about the our efforts amid the COVID-19 global pandemic. Folks cannot social distance in a cage. We have since seen facilities across the nation with outbreaks and deaths. We need to continue our advocacy now and demand to #FreeThemAll . We continue to bail folks out and thank you for your donations. As our Executive Director Tonja Honsey (in the second picture ) said “All of our funds are going to be used up, because we’re getting as many people out as possible. We are on high-alert-crisis mode.” Please consider donating today💙.
